Michael
ParticipantEvent Calendar Pro, latest version
I have added a filter bar and listed all the values I want to filter by.
The filter is called Running Category.
Each value us a race distance like 5K, 10K, mile.I uploaded a event with some columns that have one value in the Running category and some rows have multiple values in the
event category.
The filter choices in the calendar show multiple values to choose from, instead of just the one value I programmed in the Filter settings. How do I keep the filter values the singlular ones I programmed in.
Example page.

MemberGood evening Michael and welcome to the Events Calendar Support forum!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are sorry to hear about the filter bar not working how you would expect it too. I see what you mean.
I would love to help you with this topic. If you don’t mind, the fastest way to go about this would be for you to share some screenshots links (in a private reply) of:
- The way you added the categories on an event that contains many of them (e.g.: 5k and 10k)
- The detail of the filter you are using in the filter bar
Best regards,
Geoff B.

MemberGood evening Mike,
Thank you for taking the time to share some screenshots.
However, I am afraid I might have miscommunicated what I am looking for. My apologies. What I am looking for is screenshots of a couple of sample events “Edit event” screens to see how the categories of your events are set up, especially for events that have multiple categories.
If I am understanding this correctly, it looks like you are importing events from Trumba (most likely through CSV). Can you confirm ? If that is the case could you share with me a link to the CSV file in question so that I can take a look at it ?
If my theory is correct, it is possible that in the import process some of the comma separated value are actually perceived as one category.
For example: “5K, 10K” is actually seen as one name and not as “5K” and “10K” which would explain the strange filter bar behaviours.
On a related note, you could also use tags or even your own additional fields on any of these events as explained here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/configuring-filter-bar/
Best regards,
Geoff B.

ParticipantHi Geoff
The file I have been using to import is a straight CSV,

Setup of additional field

Edit View of event

MemberHey Mike,
Thank you for sharing your screenshots.
I see what is going on and I have a couple of recommendations for you.
If you haven’t already, I would go through the following 2 posts:
- https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/csv-files-options-and-examples/
As you can see, there are many importing possibilities.
However, in most cases the best way to go is:
- Creating and importing a CSV file for your venues
- Creating and importing a CSV file for your organizers
- Creating and importing a CSV file for your events
It is important that the imports are done in that exact sequence for better results.
This might require a bit of preparation to separate the content of your current CSV file in multiple CSV files, but it is totally worth it.If you follow the examples found in the links, that will allow you to:
- Get the address (venue) of the event displayed with a google map link in it’s dedicated section (as opposed to in a box labeled “Other”).
- Use Event Category as a destination for Master-All-Events column (instead of creating a new field). In turn this will get the filter to work like a charm for you.
Let me know how that goes or if you need any help accomplishing this ?

ParticipantThanks
That works if I import the Venue first, then the events.
I dont always have a submitter in the file, so I skipped that, but having the venue in first did the trick
