ParticipantWe added a new event that is causing some issues. When we select the “Featured Event” option the image scales enormously when viewed on the main events page. However, when we deselect that option the image does not scale. We currently do not use the featured event option for other types of display but we are looking to do this soon so we need to know why this is happening. Thanks!

MemberHi Bobby
There are a few interesting things happening here. Let’s see what we can fix.
1. Even when the event isn’t shown as a “featured event” I notice that it crops the image in- namely that text is missing. Is this an issue for you? It is determined by what you have selected in Settings » Media as the medium image size. You can upload images larger than whatever the medium image size is set to, so long as they scale proportionally. I suspect that your current medium size is set to 200 x 200 px and your featured images are at a different aspect ratio, leading to the weird cropping.
Note, if you change this, then the images you have already uploaded will not automatically change. They will remain the same. A plugin line Regenerate Thumbnails might be of help here, but I didn’t test it.
2. For the Featured Event Featured Image: can you start by going through our Testing for Conflicts Guide https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/testing-for-conflicts/? I am wondering if you might have a plugin or theme conflict. Begin by deactivating all other plugins, using a theme such as Twenty Seventeen https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyseventeen/, and see if the issue still persists. Also, double check for any other updates available (Dashboard » Updates).
Please let me know if the issue still persists after these tests. If it does, please mark an event as a Featured Event and send a link to just that event so I can take a peak at the code happening.
Thanks

ParticipantI had the issue of the thumbnails not sizing properly before so I did change the medium size. It’s set to 300×200 and I ran the regen thumbnail plugin and was able to get the thumbnails on previous events to show up correctly. However this event was added after that process, am I going to have to do this each time I add an event?
For the featured event option I’ve gone through each plugin and none of them had any affect on changing the huge upscale on the thumbnail. I changed my large max image size and noticed the featured event is enabling the large image category because it scaled down when I changed that setting.
I created a test event and password protected it. https://nashvillefilmmakers.com/event/test-featured-event/ – PW: 1234 and then go and look at the events list. There you’ll see how the featured event is scaling the thumbnail. Please advise next steps. Thanks!

MemberHi Bobby
You shouldn’t have to regenerate thumbnails. Are the images you are using for the featured image location a similar dimension/proportion, to prevent odd cropping?
I wasn’t able to see the featured image on the featured event in list view. I did see the single listing though.
Can you take a look at http://wpshindig.com/events/list/? It’s our demo site. On August 3, you can see a featured event, “Contribute to WordPress”, with a featured image that spans the entire width of the list. Is this roughly what you are seeing on your site?
Thanks
