ParticipantWhen attempting to update to 4.0 for Events Calendar Pro and Community Events, we get a fatal error that makes the whole site return a 500 error.

ParticipantThe site returns a 500 error. Basically it goes into maintenance mode and never comes out again.
We had to disable the Events Calendar plug in to bring the site back up. It says that it has updated to version 4.0 However, if I enable the plug in, this site instantly goes back to “Server Error – 500”. The only way I can re-enable the site is to log into the server and manually disable the plug-in folder.
Because of this, the events section of our site is currently down.
We need to either be able correctly update all three plug ins (Events Calendar, Events Calendar Pro, and Events Calendar Community Events), or de-upgrade the Events Calendar plug in back to an older, working version until a patch is released.

ParticipantHey @David,
Alright, thank you for the extra information here. To be 100% clear, you mention a “fatal error”, so is there ever any text that displays on a blank white screen before you get to “Server Error – 500”? If so, let us know – sorry to harp on this point, I’m just curious about what’s happening here…
What I would recommend to resolve this is to do a “Clean install” process – I laid out these steps in clear, simple detail over my first reply to this other recent thread → https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/an-error/#dl_post-1035652
I would recommend doing those steps until you are sure that the only files on your site for The Events Calendar, Events Calendar Pro, and Community Events are the 4.0 version files.
Once those are all installed, but still not activated, start by activating The Events Calendar; see what happens. If all clear, proceed with Events Calendar Pro; see what happens. Then finally activate Community Events and see what you find.
Thank you so much for your patience with this process!
Sincerely,

ParticipantThe symptom is that it goes straight to a blank grey screen, with the text “Server error – 500” in the middle.
No worries, I might not be using “fatal error” in the technically correct way.
I’ll try the steps you outlined in the other post and see what happens.
Thanks for the help.
