    So just a few days after I paid $178, I get an error that has shut down my entire site – I can’t even access the plugins page in my dashboard.

    I now cannot access anything in my dashboard and the site is down with this error.

    I updgraded to community events 4.0 and now I get this error:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare tribe_is_community_my_events_page() (previously declared in /home/ecmorgan111/antiochtenn.dreamhosters.com/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/functions/template-tags/query.php:67) in /home/ecmorgan111/antiochtenn.dreamhosters.com/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-community-events/src/functions/template-tags.php on line 13

    Not being a technical guy, I need very specific and straightforward instructions on how to fix this.

    Hey Clay,

    I’m sorry to hear about this! Specific and straightforward language is what I’ll aim for here – work through each step here and let me know things go!

    1. The Problem

    The problem is not a technical bug in our code. What is happening is that, for some reason, the version files on your installation are mis-matched.

    2. The Solution, Generally

    The solution is to do “clean installs” of each of the Modern Tribe plugins on your site: The Events Calendar, Events Calendar Pro, and Community Events.

    2. The Solution, Specifically: Part One

    The “clean install” process involves deleting files from your site, but this WILL NOT erase any event data.

    HOWEVER, as a precaution it’s still recommended and deeply, deeply encouraged to make a back up of your site and database before proceeding. If you are not familiar with backing up your website, now is a great time to learn! A simple google search of “how to back up a wordpress site” will yield tons of helpful options, some simple and some complex; choose one that suits you and back up your site.

    If you proceed without backing up your site, please note that you are doing so at your own discretion and against my recommendation.

    2. The Solution, Specifically: Part Two

    Once you have backed up your site, head to the “Plugins” page in your WordPress admin.

    Deactivate and then delete each of these plugins:

    • The Events Calendar
    • Events Calendar Pro
    • The Events Calendar: Community Events

    2. The Solution, Specifically: Part Three

    Once those original versions are delete, do a “fresh” installation of each piece of software anew on your site. Use version 4.0 of each piece of software.

    Here is where to get version 4.0 of each piece of software:

    • The Events Calendar → http://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar
    • Events Calendar Pro → http://theeventscalendar.com/my-account/downloads
    • The Events Calendar: Community Events → http://theeventscalendar.com/my-account/downloads

    3. Review

    Once these new versions are “freshly installed”, activate each of them starting with The Events Calendar.

    Do the problems persist?

    Thank you!
    George

    George,

    Thank you for responding. I am unable to even get to the wp dashboard.

    As I noted, I can’t do ANYTHING on the site without getting your error. I get the error when I even navigate to the dashboard page. Therefore, I can’t even do the backup much less go in and deactivate the plugins.

    This occurred when I did your update. I need help quickly.

    Hey Clay,

    Do get to the WP Dashboard, I would recommend accessing your site’s wp-content/plugins directory via FTP. As with backups, if you’re not familiar with this there are tons of easy ways to do it that you can find on Google and such.

    But once there, just DELETE the existing folders in wp-content/plugins that are related to these tribe plugins. Here are the plugins and what their corresponding folder names should roughly be (if they’re a little different, that is fine!):

    • The Events Calendar => the-events-calendar
    • Events Calendar PRO => events-calendar-pro
    • Community Events => the-events-calendar-community-events or tribe-community-events

    Once these are deleted, see if you can get to the wp-admin dashboard; if so, then proceed with the steps I wrote above starting at “2. The Solution, Specifically: Part Three”.

    Cheers!
    George
