Facebook public group events not importing

Hi,

I’m trying to import events from Facebook public group but Event Aggregator is not finding them. Do I need to be group admin to import those events? Importing from FB page works well.

Hello,

I am able to successfully import events from a test Facebook Group I’ve set up for these instances. I also tested the https://www.facebook.com/groups/AYYEvents/ link but was given an error. (see below)

Events cannot be imported because Facebook has returned an error. This could mean that the event ID does not exist, the event or source is marked as Private, or the event or source has been otherwise restricted by Facebook. You can read more about Facebook restrictions in our knowledgebase.

Are your events age restricted or do you see any other reason this issue could be occurring after reviewing the article I linked to above? Let me know what you learn and please include your System Information as a private reply. Cheers!

Hi,

I can’t find any reason why it doesn’t work. You can see upcoming events in public group’s event page https://www.facebook.com/groups/AYYEvents/events/

You can import events one by one with event link or import events from WordPress page, but Event Aggregator doesn’t find any events from group page (checked with couple of public groups).

Hello,

I believe at this time the behavior you’re experiencing is not an issue, but a restriction from Facebook’s API. I wish I had a workaround, but for the time being you’ll have to import events individually. As mentioned on the Facebook Events API errors KB article, you can contact Facebook in hopes of enabling that functionality from their API.

One more question about this.

Events are not created to that group but created to different FB pages and shared to this group by group members. Those events appear in the group’s events-list. Should Events Aggregator find such events at all or is it known limitation that it does not?

Hello,

That is a great question, one I think worth spending some time researching and possibly contacting Facebook about as it’s more pertinent to them rather than our plugins. I hope this helps and have a great upcoming weekend!
