Thanks Rick. Just wanted to confirm that we are definitely still looking into this and hope to have a patch deployed in as quick an impending dot release as possible.

Just checking in. Any updates? Need to open up the site within the next 7 days and would really like to have events importing in correctly from my page and others.

    Hi Rick,

Tim is out for the day, but I can see that he is still working on this. I relayed your deadline as well. We certainly can’t guarantee to meet it, but hopefully we’ll be able to get you a solution. I’ll be in touch as soon as I know more.

    Best,
    Leah

    Hey Rick,
I finally had a break through on this last night. Looks like FB graph api is not recognizing the field “picture” for events for random events. I am not sure if this is a change coming in their API or just a bug on their end. I was able to randomly replicate the error you’re seeing by manually debugging the event import request. This leads me to believe it’s a change in how their API might be handling these.

Please make sure you are using the latest Facebook Importer plugin version because it should fail gracefully during the event import (sans image import for that specific event).

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Tim,

Thanks for the response. I, as far as I am aware, am using the latest version of the plugin (3.0.1) and while I have been able to import events manually with no issues as of right now, however, it is the auto import functions that interested me the most and were the genesis of my complaint. Is that working for you or do you have any idea as to why I keep getting a Facebook API error whenever I attempt to put the pages I wish to import into the settings?

    Thanks,
    Rick

Hey Rick, Sorry I missed notifications on your response. I was also testing the auto import (faster gratification with the manual import the specific event ids). The way the plugin works for automatic importing is just sets up a wp cron schedule to fire off the same process as the manual import. So in the end whether it\’s auto or manual the import will fail if there are errors. One thing I am seeing is that the Facebook API is now not responding to featured image requests with \”fields not found\” error even though their documentation gives particular examples (which those don\’t work now either). They have been notorious for changing or having inaccurate docs over time, so possibly there is a change coming through but I have not seen any mention of it in dev blogs etc so am still researching the reason it is all changing again.

    Tim,
I appreciate the work to try and figure this out. I know that Facebook likes to change things without updating or notifying anyone so I can understand the frustrations with their API changes. I’ve brought the site online regardless and would ask that a solution continue to be worked towards as having the ability to import events directly from individual Facebook pages is a boon for me since we coordinate with a large number of groups to populate our calendar with events and having the ability to pull them in without user intervention makes my workload much lighter.
Thanks for the great plugin otherwise though, Im loving not having to type every single event in.

    Hi Rick,

Thanks again for your patience here. I’ve had another of our developers take a look too. The picture bug should be fixed in the next plugin release, so I’ll need a little more patience from you there, but it’s coming 🙂

The second error seems to be an issue with that specific event. We got the same error when trying to import 152039734991944. Facebook will return that error when you try to access age or country restricted content using the API, since you need to be logged into Facebook as a user in that location or age group in order to see the content. Is there any chance that event or the Facebook Page is restricted to a specific age or location? That would explain the error you’re getting, and why you’re able to import other events without a problem.

    Thanks,
    Leah

    Leah,

That looks to have solved it. Apparently I had set up a country restriction (not sure why) but it is working now and importing events properly. Thanks for the perseverance through all of this. I appreciate the assistance!

Excellent to hear this got you sorted, Rick! Thanks for confirming as much.

Can anyone else who was still having this problem confirm whether or not Leah’s last reply helps point you towards a resolution? Let me know either way and we’ll follow-up as needed.

Going to close this one since we haven’t heard from anyone other than Rick (who is confirmed as resolved) in a couple weeks. If you’re still having issues please open a new thread and we’ll get you sorted!
