Exclude category from photo view and maintain category for widget.

Using events calendar PRO, We have a widget that’s constant across all pages within the footer. Within the widget we selected the filter “other events” to display events that don’t necessarily warrant space on a given events page.

referencing a previous support post: exclude-one-category-from-events-listing-show-excluded-category-on-category-pag, I was able to exclude “other events” from displaying on our “Upcoming Events” page. However, this also excluded that category from the widget in the footer.

We are using photo view everywhere with the exception of the footer. Is there a potential workaround for this, or another approach without using the above referenced hook?

To answer your question, yes, there are other approaches to achieve what you are looking for.

Just to set expectations, as you might know, the scope of our support is mostly to get our wonderful customers started on the right track to customize their site and to help them in case of issues. We unfortunately do not provide complete support for customization.

With that in mind,  a simple way to do that would be to create a customization for your photo view. You might want to read our Themer’s guide to see how that works. If you include the code directly in the customized page template, it should not impact the widgets.

The other way to do this would be to add some conditionals (IF) to make your filter specific to the content area and not apply to the widgets
