I’ve set up an event that’s a few hours from when the event is happening and it doesn’t show up. Is there a reason for this?

It’s 6:54PM CST and the event is at 8PM – 11PM. Time zone is set correctly.

    Hello Sam,

Thanks for reaching out, let me try to help you with this one.

There shouldn’t be any reason for the future event not to show up.

Can you point me to the event which has this problem and possible share a screenshot of the event settings?

Does this issue appear regularly? Could you check with creating a new event?

What I also see is that your WordPress Timezone is set to GMT -5 and your server timezone is UTC.  Based on our experiences so far this could cause a problem. Can you test with setting your WP Timezone to UTC, for the sake of the excercise, and check what happens then?

Please check these and we’ll take it further from there. Meanwhile a possible solution is forming in my head… We’ll see how it takes shape.

    Cheers,
    Andras

PS: Super nice looking site, congrats!

One more question: does /did the event show up in the past events section?

    Thanks!

Thank you for your help, Andras. I’ve made a screen capture of the issue to show you all the settings and recreating the issue. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7bjnpt56i3ofwnb/Calendar%20Issue.mp4?dl=0

Let me know if that helps and what other info you’ll need. Currently, we don’t have a past events option turned on/developed yet so there’s no way to test it.

Thank you again for all your help.

The video looks very pixelated when you view it in the browser. I’d recommend downloading it and view it with Quicktime or VLC.

Hey Sam, thanks for the video, that was super helpful.

Based on that I tried to recreate the issue but didn’t manage…

I think I didn’t explain in detail in my first reply. “Can you test with setting your WP Timezone to UTC, for the sake of the excercise, and check what happens then?” => What I meant is can you set your WP timezone to UTC+-0 and check? (You can leave the event at UTC-5 and check, then set that also to UTC+-0 and check.)

Meanwhile I will also keep checking / testing.

    Thanks,

    Andras

    Hi Andras,

I’ve tried your suggestions and still no luck. What I did notice is the ending time seems to be the culprit. See video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/uhmq6896fn8tlwh/Calendar%20Issue%20Video%202.mp4?dl=0

I can create you a login if that helps.

    Best regards,
    -Sam

Thanks for sharing that video. I will take a look and do some investigation. Please allow me some time for that. I’ll get back to you asap.

    Hey Sam,

I’ve had no luck recreating the issue yet – if you can call that luck. 🙂

Meanwhile could you check if the issue exists when you are using a default theme like twentysixteen?

Also would be great if you could run a test for conflicting plugins, like this: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/testing-for-conflicts/

    Thanks and cheers,
    Andras

    Andras,

No luck with testing for conflicts either. Sadly, the events page is custom built and doesn’t work with Twenty sixteen. We simply don’t have any more time allocated to this project and will have to find a different solution.

Thank you for your help. I will touch base with my client to concoct a separate plan.

    Hello Sam,

Thanks for your cooperation so far! I’m sorry it is taking so long to get to the root of the issue. I understand if you would want to move to a different platform. I want to let you know that we’re here to support you and to help you find the culprit. In order for me to be fully able to help you, I need some help from you as well.

Since testing for plugin conflicts didn’t provide any result and you didn’t test it with a default theme, that brings me to the strong hunch there might be something in the custom built events page that makes it act up. I know, since it is custom you cannot test it on a default theme, however you could test the simple list view in twentysixteen, whether that produces the same error. If that works well, then it is definitely the custom page. If the issue still exists there (with all plugins off), then we can start working deeper.

I understand you are short on time, though finding the issue might take less time than moving to a different platform. That is up to your judgement though.

In case you are still in play, then the best would be a fresh test site – this will avoid any disruption to your live site and ensure that we’ve effectively got a “clean canvas” to work with.

    • Please install a fresh copy of WordPress in a subdirectory (if you have a CPanel-type hosting account there will probably be a one-click install script to make this really easy)
    • Don’t install anything except The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO
    • Please also stick to a default theme — again, there’s no need to install anything else just yet!
    • Create a few events so we have some test data to work with
    • Can you replicate the same problem?

If you find you can replicate the problem under these conditions it would be awesome if you could stop and let us know so we can take a closer look while the site is still running under default conditions.

    Thanks for your help!

    Cheers,
    Andras

One more thing, I just realized in your sysinfo. It looks like your WP and some plugins are outdated. I would recommend to run an update on them as well.

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
