    Hi!

Events have disappeared from the calendar.

    We are using:
    The Events Calendar
    The Events Calendar PRO
    The Events Calendar: Community Events
    The Events Calendar: Filter Bar

    I have ran all updates.

I was able to go to a backup of the database and get it working yesterday, but I checked it this morning and things are gone again.

I’ve disabled the ftp folder: wp-content / plugins / the-events-calendar, deactivated all the (4) Event Calendar plugins, deleted “The Events Calendar” plugin and reinstalled, and that did not help. I went to Settings > Permalinks and hit Save again.

I can’t find any other help online for troubleshooting tips.
    Let me know, thanks!

    Hi Becky

That does sound frustrating. Have you tried disabling all other plugins and using a default theme, like Twenty Seventeen https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyseventeen/? See our Testing for Conflicts https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/testing-for-conflicts/ guide for more help on troubleshooting. I am wondering if your caching plugin may be impacting things, or another plugin.

Are you by chance using Event Aggregator?

Are any of your events recurring?

I really hope I can help you get this resolved.

    Thanks

Thank you, I just tried all of that.
I activated the default 2017 theme, deactivated all plugins except the four Events Calendar theme, cleared cache in two different browsers, and the events are still not showing on the calendar.
I just put everything back so at least it looks like their normal site.

We are not using the Event Aggregator.
    Yes, there are recurring events.

Let me know what else I can try, thanks!

    Hi Becky

At what point do events go missing? Is this happening immediately after hitting publish, or mysteriously when you aren’t working in the site?

Approximately how long did you have all other plugins disabled? Optimization and caching plugins can do odd things.

    Thanks

    Hello Courtney!

Yes, they are randomly disappearing when we’re not on the site. I have submitted events myself and it’s not breaking it, so I’m unsure of where it’s happening. It seems to drop every 3-4 days, and all I do is reupload a new database and it reverts back to good. This means we’re not getting any new events, but at least the site has some events and looks usable.

When I disabled the plugins and cleared the cache it was about 20 minutes? I gave up and flipped it back so the site wouldn’t appear broken.

Let me know what else I can try, thanks! Krystal

    Hi Becky

Would you mind enabling WP_DEBUG and sharing any PHP errors you see while navigating your site’s home page, events page, single-event pages, and any other of your site’s pages relevant to this ticket?

Once you share your WP_DEBUG findings, we may be able to get an idea of any plugin or theme conflicts.

    Please enable WP_DEBUG on your site. You’ll need to edit to your site’s wp-config.php file and change this line of code: define('WP_DEBUG', false); to this: define('WP_DEBUG', true);
(or add this line of code if you can’t find mention of ‘WP_DEBUG’ in your wp-config.php file)

If any errors do appear while navigating your site’s pages, please copy and paste them in their entirety into a new ticket reply — along with the URL of where you saw the error(s) — and make sure you set it as a Private reply.

If you don’t see any WP_DEBUG messages while browsing your site, could you try temporarily activating the default Twenty Fifteen theme, and seeing if the issue persists.

If disabling the theme fixes it, we have narrowed the issue down to a theme conflict. Do you have any theme overrides for the Events Calendar? If so could you try disabling them by renaming your [themename]/tribe-events/ folder to β€˜tribe-events-bak’. Did that fix it?

If the issue persists in the default Twenty Fifteen theme, then we have a different set of debugging steps. Please keep the Twenty Fifteen theme enabled, and also disable any plugins other than the ones from Modern Tribe to see if that fixes it. If it does, please try re-enabling the plugins one at a time until the issue resurfaces. When it does resurface, can you let me know which plugin caused that to happen?

    Thanks

    Hello!

I opened the config file and turned the WP_debug to “true” and then opened the website and navigated through all pages, I saw no errors. Having not used the WP_debug function before, I googled a bit about it and looked for any logs that could have been created in the ftp and did not see any either. I waited another 20 minutes and tried again, nothing. Finally, I swapped to the default theme and did the same, no errors.
To be clear, I currently have the events displayed because I reverted to the old database. Should I wait and try this above test again once I notice that it has disappeared?

Any other ideas? Thank you very much!

    Hello Becky

Yes, please check WP Debug after you notice events have gone missing.

    Thanks

Good morning! I checked the site this morning and the events have disappeared again.
I see no log or errors anywhere from the WP_DEBUG we enabled. Is there a particular place those would be?
I’m going to leave the website broken so you can see it…

Let me know what else to do, thanks!

    Hi Beck

Can you disable W3 Total Cache, BackWPup and Transient Cleaner. Then let the site run without those for a few days – or long enough of a window that one of these mass delete events would normally have taken place – and see if it happens again or not.

This is highly atypical behaviour and not something we’re seeing general reports of, so it does point to there being a site specific cause to this.

    Keep me posted.

    Thanks

Excellent Courtney, I have disabled the three plugins you requested, re uploaded an old database to get the events showing again, and now we wait. I’ll let you know, thanks! Krystal

Thanks Becky – I hope this will narrow down which of them might be our issue. Keep us posted!

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
