GuestHello!
I’m currently using Events Calendar, and considering switching to pro but had a quick question. The big feature we’re looking for in pro is Additional Fields. We would like users to be able to register for events and fill out a number of fields before doing so. Do we also need Event Tickets along with it, if we are not charging for events? Its just plain old registration.

GuestHello! I have the same question – we’d like to include registration with events (aka tickets) that are either free or paid for elsewhere (we’re not planning to take payment). Is Modern Tribe extensible enough to build our own registration piece for it, or can we use the Tickets add on with more fields than just email address and name?
Thanks,

MemberGood evening Phil and Kate and welcome to the Events Calendar forum!
Thank you for your interest in our products.
We’ll be glad to answer your questions. We would like users to be able to register for events and fill out a number of fields before doing so. Do we also need Event Tickets along with it, if we are not charging for events? Its just plain old registration.
This is a great question.
Actually Additional fields are not meant for registration purposes, but rather as a tool to display additional information in your events. You can see it in action here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/pro-additional-fields/
Based on what your needs are, I believe you should get a copy of Event Tickets Plus: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-event-tickets-plus/
This will let you collect additional attendee information: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/collecting-attendee-information/
That does not mean that you have to charge for your registration (unless you actually want to – in which case you will probably need to install WooCommerce as well). But it is the only way to get the functionality you are looking for.
So in short you will need:
- the Events Calendar
- Event Tickets (free): https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-event-tickets/
- Event Tickets Plus: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-event-tickets-plus/
When all of these are installed, you will use “RSVP” tickets (which come at no charge) and will be able to specify the extra info you want to capture.
Let me know if that helps.
Have a great day!

GuestThanks for this! One more question, are recurring events supported?
Thanks,

GuestThanks for clarifying Geoff, exactly what I needed to know.
Kate, I do know that recurring events are indeed a part of Events Calendar Pro, not the free version.

MemberGood afternoon Phil,
I am super stoked that this helped out.
Kate, Phil is 100% correct. To get recurring events support, you will need to grab a copy of the Events Calendar Pro as well: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-events-calendar-pro/
You are welcome back in our support forums any time 🙂
For now, I am going to close this thread.
Have a great week!
