ParticipantHello,
We are using Events Calendar PRO on two of our sites. Both sites have the same settings set for Events Calendar PRO and they both have the same plugins and theme installed on the site with similarly sized databases.
They are both hosted on Wpengine, using Wpengine caching services along with the WP Rocket caching plugin.
We have also tried to enable the following setting on Events Calendar PRO settings page since it was suggested in other forms regarding this similar issue:
Check this to cache your month view HTML in transients, which can help improve calendar speed on sites with many events.
Both sites are using a CDN.
Images and scripts have been optimized as far as they can be without breaking the sites.
On the faster site, the calendar events page and the single events page loads very fast. On occasion, it will load a little slow but it is not as concerning since it regularly loads up very fast. This site has 20 events published with the plugin.
On the slower site, the calendar events page and the single events page load extremely slow. Every once and awhile it will load fairly quickly but 98% of the time it takes nearly a minute+ to load the calendar events page, single events and when clicking the next month on the main calendar page it also takes 3 times as long to load in new calendar details compared to the other site that this plugin is installed on. This slower site has 40 events published on it.
Please let us know what we can do to improve this issue since we have exhausted our resources and do not want to modify any core files in the plugin especially if you are aware of a fix and can contribute to solving this issue.
Thank you!

KeymasterHello Randy,
Thanks for using our plugins and welcome to the forums!
I’m sorry to hear about your troubles. I will do my best to help you solve this. The behavior you described is indeed unusual.
Can you please share with me the urls of the 2 sites you are mentioning?
What kind of events do you have on the site with 40 events? Is it mostly recurring events or single events?
Did you try to run a conflict test on the slower site to check if any of the plugins are causing this behavior?
Looking forward to helping you with this.
Cheers,

ParticipantHi Andras,
These are the pages experiencing the slowest load times.
https://oc.discoverycube.org/calendar/
https://oc.discoverycube.org/event/eco-challenge-day/
The events are mostly recurring.
I’ve tested the site locally, revert theme and turned off all plugins and it still runs very slow. I’m using query monitor to get more insight on the issues. It shows that there are slow queries referring to the calendar data.
I’ll take a look at the conflict article. Thanks

KeymasterHey Randy,
I also checked the pages. It’s difficult to pinpoint any cause of the slow loading. It can be a number of things.
Here are some points I found while running some tests:
- there are a number of large image files being loaded on the pages
- google analytics and some ‘addthis’ – I guess social media buttons – has a long response time
Let me know what you manage to find out with Query Monitor. That might bring us closer to the source of the issue.
I just remembered this article on performance and this one on caching that might be helpful as well.
