I’ve been running Events Calendar for quite a while on my fairly simple WP site. I update everything regularly. Last week I wanted to create a recurring event. It seemed the only way to do that was to renew my Events Calendar Pro license for $62. So I did. Very shortly after, my site completely crashed. The error I got from my hosting company support ticket was a “max_query” limit exceeded error which seemed unlikely as the site is a simple not-for-profit site with not a ton of action.

So, the hosting company hit me up for $36 to upgrade my query limit from 75000/hour to 150000/hour. That worked for about 5 minutes. Then the site crashed again. (But I did get better phone support in the deal.)

By day 3 or 4 of the site being completely non-functional, we finally deactivated all the plugins, slowly reactivating them and revealing Events Cal Pro as the culprit. Prior to all the crashing, I had set up one recurring event for the first of every month. It still shows up on the calendar even though Pro has now been deactivated.

I then found your forum about the update to 4.2.2.1. I thought great; it was just a bug this should fix it. Nope. I upgraded last night to 4.2.2.1 only to have the whole site crash again after about 5 minutes. Also, when I go into the list of events and try to delete the 9,000 plus instances of that one recurring event, I can’t trash it or purge the cache. I get a 502 Bad Gateway nginx message.

I’d like to know how to get rid of all those erroneous recurring events. And I’d like a refund of the $62. This just isn’t worth the hassle. I’ve only taken the time to explain in detail in case others are experiencing the same issue. Please advise.

    Hi Colleen,

Thank you for being so kind and thorough in your initial post 🙂

I’m sorry to hear about the troubles and I’d be happy to help out! We typically ask that you try and reproduce the issues after reviewing our Testing for conflicts guide. Reason I ask is because you checked ‘Yes’ to deactivating all other plugins but not for reverting back to the default WP theme.

Also, we have a plugin you can install and leave activated for about a week that should help clean up the unneeded events. Let me know if it helps and please keep me updated if you’re able to update to the latest version with your site crashing. And remember to make sure you have the default and WP theme and only our plugins active.

Have a great Monday and thanks for choosing PRO!
