Event calendar on custom theme

I added the event calendar plugin to my custom theme but when I clicked on the permalink, I was directed to a page which looks exactly like my homepage.
The plugin worked perfectly on one of the available WordPress themes.
Is there anything I am missing to make your theme work on my custom theme?
