error crashes database

I thought I had resolved this last week but there continues to be some kind of error being generated that kills my server. Here are the last few lines of the error_log.

Sorry you’ve had another issue arise like this!

If so, then I’m curious here – do you have any other recurring events now that are reminiscent of the one you mentioned in that other issue? I.e., recurring events that are recurring for 10 or 12 months or something like that, or even just a recurring event that is recurring several times per day for a month or something?

Just curious, because while I fully admit that we have some performance improvements we could definitely make to our plugin (and are working on very actively, in fact), from all of your issues the underlaying theme seems to be some limitations with your web server itself.

This is not a problem and I’m not trying to be rude or put all the blame on your server! No worries – I only mention this detail because your server itself has often been a limiting factor with issues you’ve reported here, and may be the problem-causing thing here since I cannot reproduce an error like yours on my site.

Hi,

This is the same problem I reported last time. I have since reduced the amount of months that people could create recurring events from 12 to 3. I checked all the recurring events and none of them are currenlty more than once or twice a month. Originally, we thought it was a disk space error as well but our server is currently only at 44% capacity. The only change I made in the last week was to hide the filter bar. I followed another thread to do this using a template override. I do not see how that could be related to this.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for the info here. I agree with you about the filter bar-related template override not being related here – I don’t think it is, and these errors in particular are referring to things related cron jobs and recurring events.

I think that the best step at present is for you to contact your web host’s support about this promptly, and inquire about this error especially:

I’m not shrugging this responsibility purely on to your host! There will likely be a specific file or line of code, even, that they can point to. From there we can take a closer look at what’s happening but at present this seems to be a failure with your server itself – related to something in code, yes, but your web host is the only entity who can report where things broke specifically and relay that back to you (and us, by extension…).

Let us know what they say and keep us posted on things here! I’m sorry that I don’t have a more “concrete” action step at this time but learning your web host’s input here could be immensely valuable.

HI again,

The crashes are being caused by the error_log filling up and growing in size and taking all the disk space. Today, I disabled all the calendar plugins and the errors stopped. I cleared out the log and re-activated the plugin. The errors started up right away. This snippit might help:

Hi Again,

This is the error log right before and right after I disabled the calendar plugins. I’m disabling the events calendar, the events calendar PRO and the Filter Bar. You can see the error stops and new error are generated (widget logic) because the calendar is disabled.

When I googled this: 40cd750bba9870f18aada2478b24840a the results came up with Scheduled Posts errors. There were 6 events that were scheduled to be posted. I moved those to the trash. The error, however, continues.

I found this after turning on debug.

Hey @smpcherrypoint,

Thank you for the information and for the revelation that this is a Core WordPress problem.

That leaves us with little options, unfortunately, though that ticket is slated for release in WordPress 4.3.1 so hopefully it will arrive soon!

On your end of things, is there anything you do that helps get around this stuff? e.g. if you have scheduled posts but remove the “scheduling” and just save them as “Drafts” or something?
