    When trying to update The Events Calendar base plugin via the WordPress plugins update area, I get the following failures )happens for both the base and PRO plugins.

    Downloading update from [[Removed by Modern Tribe support team]]

    Download failed. cURL error 61: Unrecognized content encoding type. libcurl understands deflate, gzip content encodings.

    Interestingly, I am not having this problem on a media temple grid server site, but I am having it on a Liquidweb VPS; both running PHP 5.6.21. I opened a ticket with Liquidweb and they are not actually seeing an error messages at the server level. They reviewed cUrl/libcurl settings and capabilities and all are there – it should not have trouble deflating. There is no security feature blocking the download either.

    Hi Kelly,

    I’m sorry that you aren’t able to update from the Dashboard! We have had a few other users reporting this same issue and are currently looking into it. In the meantime, can you please try updating manually by following these instructions? Let me know if this method works for you!
