    I just entered a million new events, then upgraded to 4.0 and everything is a mess. recurring events are all screwed up. error messages and “warnings” are all over my event pages. not cool.

    Hey @bluewaterparent,

    I totally agree that this is “not cool”. Let’s take a look here and see what’s going on – can you share your “System Information” with us for starters? Here’s how → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/

    Next, can you share links to specific pages on your site where there are error messages like the ones you report?

    Thank you!
    George

    This page is ok, although the graphics are a little fuzzy since the download: http://www.bluewaterparent.com/event/4312/

    This page is not ok: http://www.bluewaterparent.com/event/lapsit-burtchville-8/

    I do not have great tech skills. I chose this calendar because it was easy for a novice like me. Now, I’m totally lost. I would be happy to go back to the previous version, if possble.

    The more I do, the worse it gets, so I will just wait for help. Thanks

    One more thing- any recurring event that I entered prior to the update is comletely screwed up. for example: http://www.bluewaterparent.com/event/lapsit-2/2015-12-08/
    If you hover over the event on the monthly calendar, it gives the description (the duration is incorrect) but when you click to go to the actual event listing, its a 404.

    Hey @bluewaterparent,

    Before attending to the recurring event issue, I’m curious about this event → http://www.bluewaterparent.com/event/lapsit-burtchville-8/

    It’s the one with errors, obviously.

    This event does NOT have errors: http://www.bluewaterparent.com/event/4312/

    1. On the event WITHOUT errors, what is the value of the “cost” field?
    2. On the event WITH errors, what is the value of the “cost” field?

    Thanks!
    George

    Thanks, George. The one with errors is free. The one without errors is $10-20.

    Thanks for confirming this! I know this seems like such a minute detail, but…if you change the value of the field WITH errors from ‘free’ to just the digit 0, does that error go away?

    The reason I ask this is because it seems we have a bug in our code at play here, where that field only accepts digits and not strings like ‘free’. Let me know if changing the value to 0 helps at all.

    Thank you for your patience!

    Yes, if I change to 0, the problem goes away. THat’s easy enough.

    The problem with recurring events remains. I can’t even trash them. They still show up on the calendar.

    Thank you for your help.

    I’m sorry to hear about the recurring event issues persisting – apologies for not addressing those, I didn’t notice your note above!

    I have a few questions related to this:

    1. What are your sites Permalinks settings in “Settings > Permalinks” in your wp-admin?

    2. Regardless of what those settings are, does simply clicking “Save Changes” without actually making any changes? This may seem like an odd thing to do but is a little “trick” within WordPress to get the permalinks across your site to refresh, which might help here.

    3. You mention the problem as being with events from before your update; to be clear, do any newly-added recurring events work fine?

    Address each of these question in the order listed – it will help keep things organized and the organization will be helpful for tracking down this issue.

    I mention that because I cannot recreate problems like this with recurring events locally on my own site, so this issue may unfortunately require a bit of investigation here 🙁

    I really appreciate your patience – thank you!

    Sincerely,
    George

    A lot of my problems have disappeared, it seems. No more 404 pages.

    1. The permalinks do seem to have corrected. I think there was a problem with that, but seems to be ok now.

    2.But…I noticed that when I enter 0 in the cost field, it doesn’t show up as anything. I do want “free” to show up on the event listing if possible.

    3. And, there seems to be a time lag between the time I enter or change a listing and the time the change shows up. Newly added events included. I just did this one as a test and went back to edit it and the edit never “took”. http://www.bluewaterparent.com/event/merry-christmas/2015-12-15/

    It seems like there is a problem with not having an end time. Many of the events on my calendar do not have an end time. LEaving that field blank seems to cause trouble.

    My apologies for my lack of tech savvy. Please let me know if more information is needed. Thank you.

    Hey @Bluewaterparent,

    Thank you so much for your patience here. Glad to hear that some things are a bit better by now.

    2.But…I noticed that when I enter 0 in the cost field, it doesn’t show up as anything. I do want “free” to show up on the event listing if possible.

    There is unfortunately a bug at this time with the Cost field that makes it difficult for “Free” to show up fine on the front-end. You MIGHT have some success, for now, by adding the following snippet to your theme’s functions.php file – then just enter the word “Free” into your cost fields and see if it helps:

    add_filter( 'tribe_get_cost', 'cost_show_full_meta_field', 10, 2 );

    function cost_show_full_meta_field( $cost, $post_id ) {
    $full_cost = tribe_get_event_meta( $post_id, '_EventCost', false );

    if ( isset( $full_cost[0] ) ) {
    return sanitize_text_field( $full_cost[0] );
    }

    return $cost;
    }

    There are a few things to touch on here.

    First, if there are “lags” every time you edit an event or change site options or something like that, then this is likely a result of hosting or server-side issues, not something within The Events Calendar or another plugin on your site…I’d recommend raising any performance concerns like this with your web-hosting support team and seeing if they notice any specific things on your server that would indicate a source for the slowness and/or lags.

    Next, in regards to events having an end time, at this time there is unfortunately a very important requirement for start times and end times for events. This can only be altered if you set the event as an “All Day” event – otherwise, start- and end- dates and times are required.

    No worries at all about questions and concerns here, thank you for your patience with our replies and with our software on the heels of this massive 4.0 release 🙂 Please let me know if I can help with anything else!

    Cheers,
    George
