The cost slider goes all the way up to $100,000 – even though my highest priced event is $62,000 (and 99% are $10K or less)

It’s really tough to use, even sliding it all the way down until it touches the starting square, it’s $22,556 (see image) – so there’s no easy way to look for events that are less than, say, $5,000. Or to get very granular at all,.

And then if I slide it all the way down to 0 it actually goes to the left of the starting square – if that makes sense?

    See screenshots here:

What I’d expect is – the max value is pretty close to the max ticket value (e.g., not $40,000 higher)
and for the slider not to go below the starting point.

Good evening Abby and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

I understand what you are saying, it can be difficult to pinpoint a specific price with such a wide spread of prices.

Have you considered using checkboxes instead of the slider for the Cost filter ?
You can find this option under Events -> Settings -> Filter (click on the cost filter arrow)

Other that that, you are right, unfortunately out of the box the slider is not “smart” (going all the way to zero regardless of the available prices).

My best advice for that would be to suggest both of your ideas as future features:

    1. Being able to make the slider bigger for large price ranges
    2. Displaying the lowest cost event as the bottom value of the slider

Alternatively, you could also hire a programmer to tweak the cost slider code.

I wish there is more I could do to help you, but in my humble opinion, you would probably be better served with checkboxes in your specific situation.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

    Have a wonderful night,

    Geoff B.

My issue is not that it goes all the way to zero. My issue is that to get it to zero you have to go PAST the starting point (in other words OUTSIDE of the slider itself) – which is a bug.

The checkboxes are awful because it puts categories in there like $50,000-$75,000 and $75000-$100000 for which there are no tickets.

I really don’t feel that the proper functioning of the slider when dealing with higher priced tickets should be a “feature” request.

I also don’t think I should have to hire a programmer to fix a bug in your product and honestly resent your asking me to.

    Good evening Abby,

Please accept my apology for not understanding what you meant and thank you for clarifying.

To ensure that we do our due diligence, I would love to actually take a look at your website to see what we can do about the issue you are describing.

The reason I am asking is that I cannot seem to reproduce this on my end for the moment.

Would you mind sharing the link to your website ?

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

I don’t have a link to my website because I’m evaluating the events calendar on my local computer.

    Try this to duplicate:
    – add an event with a ticket of $20,000
    – look at the cost slider on the filter bar

If you slide the slider ALL the way down to the start, it is around $22,000 as you can see here:
    slider

In other words, the entire range of the slider $22,000 – $100,000 is above the cost of any of the tickets in the system.

You actually have to slide it past the starting square (to the left) to even get into the range of where your tickets are, as shown here: slider

and the space between $0 and $22,000 is so incredibly small it’s not really usable for selecting the range.

    Good evening Abby,

Thank you for providing me with the step-by-step way to duplicate the issue.

I was able to reproduce it on my end and I have to agree with you, the cost filter slider is not very friendly in the context of high priced tickets.

After discussing it with the team here, we believe as you did that the slider going past zero is a legitimate bug.
As such, I will open a bug ticket to fix that.

We cannot however commit to a specific release date at this point, but we really appreciate you helping us make this a better product.

That being said, in my humble opinion, I am not sure the cost slider is the best way to go for a wide range of ticket prices, at least not with this size.

With that in mind, I would totally understand if you would like to get a refund on your recent purchases.

As you might know, we offer 100% refunds within 30 days of purchase. To actually process your refund can you forward a copy of your original receipt order email after you bought your license to [email protected]

Make sure this is not a PayPal receipt email or something like that. What we are looking for is the receipt from http://theeventscalendar.com directly and should feature the “Order Number” pretty prominently in the top of the email.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you today ?

    Have a great evening,

    Geoff B.

    Hello again Abby,

As a side note, I did some extensive testing to try to reproduce the second part of the issue you were describing as part of logging the bug, since it is not normal behaviour for the range of the price (right box of the slider) to go beyond the price of the most expensive ticket existing in the database.

The only way I was able to reproduce the problem was by actually creating a ticket for $100,000 which I later updated down to $22 000 WHILE having a known conflictual plugin in place. Somehow in that very specific context, the system “kept a trace” of the original $100 000 value.

The only way to get things back to normal (having $22 000 as the top value) was by deleting the buggy ticket and creating a brand new one to replace it.

So the great news is that you should be able to at least get the slider to display $62 000 as the top value as long as you remember which ticket was at point given a value of $100 000.

Better yet, identifying if a plugin or perhaps your WordPress theme is conflicting with our plugins should also restore the behaviour of the cost slider back to normal.

If you are interested in pursuing this avenue, I would recommend following our testing for Conflicts guide.

If you would like us to pitch in and help you down that path, then I would suggest providing us with your system information in a private reply.

Once again we would like to thank you for your great input and patience.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Geoff B.

    Hello,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We weren’t able to get a fix for it into our upcoming release (4.1). However, please know that the problem is still on our radar and is ticketed within our system to be addressed in a future maintenance release. We’ll do our best to keep you posted when we are able to get a solution in place. Thank you for your patience while we improve and expand our plugins.

    Best,
    Leah
