ParticipantHi,
We’ve currently updated our Events Calender, Calendar Pro and Community Events plugins.
Upon checking the page to submit a form we noticed that the page no longer loads. We get a slow load time then are lead to a blank page.
The page is located here: http://vchnews.ca/events/event-submit/add
I’ve tried resetting the permalinks but had no luck. On our staging environment however we are able to load the form.
If you have any questions or comments please let me know.
Thanks,

MemberHey Darrell,
Shoot, that’s not good at all! Very strange that it would happen on your live site but not the development one.
Is there something different about the configuration (or what is installed) on the live site from the development site? I do see a number of plugins noted in your system information–are all of those installed on the development site as well and, if so, configured similarly?
My hunch is that there is some sort of caching happening–whether it’s from the settings of a caching plugin, the theme, or possibly even the server. But, let’s try to see what the difference is between those two environments before we go there.
Also, will you please try the steps outlined in this guide? This doesn’t look like a classic 404 error, but they would be handy nonetheless to make sure we’re covering our bases.
Thanks!

MemberExcellent, thanks for following up, Darrell! I would still recommend the steps in this guide, but I’ll be interested to see if there’s any improvement once those other updates you mentioned have been made. Definitely keep me posted.
Thanks!

ParticipantHowdy Darrell,
Thank you for elaborating. That gives a good next step that is likely to reveal something.
There is a new behaviour on the event submission page that I’ve noticed. Instead of taking a long time to load then displaying nothing there is content being added to the page now.
The content appears to be a bare bone unstyled events submission form.
This behavior typically happens when the server is under a great load. Usually when that happens you will start getting errors in your server error log. If you check your server error logs are you seeing errors around the time you are loading this page? Do they mention any resource shortage or config that needs changing?
Cheers!

MemberHey Darrell,
Thanks for following up! It’s possible that commenting out those lines are providing the server with just enough juice to run. However, not having them in there is likely removing key parts of the form (for example, the ability to select organizers). Brook’s suggestion to review the logs would still be helpful here to see if that’s the difference between the development and live sites.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Thanks for the response.
Is there anything in particular that we should keep an eye on when reviewing these logs? My apologies I’m not too familiar with what sort of information is output here.
If you have any other questions or need me to clarify anything please let me know.
Thanks,

MemberHey Darrell,
The logs themselves will contain items marked as errors. Looks for specific notices about the server being under-resourced, out of memory, or in need of a different configuration.
Thanks!
