ParticipantWe have a weekly blog post that we use to aggregate events listings on our website, GoToMyrtleBeach.com.
We’ve had problems recently with the calendar recognizing some events with tags, but ignoring others.
For instance, look at the events the post pulled in to today’s post: http://www.gotomyrtlebeach.com/myrtle-beach-events-calendar/
Now, look at the events we’ve entered for the upcoming week: http://www.gotomyrtlebeach.com/events/
Here’s the coding I’m using to pull the appropriate event into the blog post: [slposts title_only=false excerpt_length=40 auto_excerpt=true thumbnail=true thumbnail_wh=250×250 thumbnail_re=thumbnail custom_post_type=tribe_events tag=0128 query_relation=AND sort_by_date=true instance=events]
Everything with a “0128” tag should be pulling onto that blog. Any idea why just a few would?January 28, 2015 at 9:09 am #938537Geoff
MemberHello there, Lisa! Thanks for getting in touch and sorry you’re hitting some trouble here with how events are pulling into your site’s blog posts.
It looks like the shortcode being used is pulling in events based on the Published Date of the event rather than the Start Date of the event. So, in other words, the events that get displayed are the latest published events rather than the next upcoming events.
I would suggest reaching out to the developer of the shortcode and see if there is a way it can recognize and order the Start Date of the tribe_events custom post type and output the posts that way.
As far as some tags being recognized and other not, is there some sort of limit of how many posts that the shortcode displays at one time? I would definitely check that out as well.
Let’s start there and see what we find.
Cheers!

ParticipantGeoff,
The shortcode should (and usually has) been pulling anything with the tag “0128.” I entered 5 art events yesterday. One of those is showing up on that post, while the other four are not. However, they were all entered the same day and three of them had the exact same run time.
There is no limit on the posts displayed. We’ve had weeks we had up to 30 in there and it’s been fine. This just started happening recently.
Please help.

MemberHi Todd, thanks for following up!
Was there a recent update to your site (theme, plugin, etc.)? Could that have had an impact?
Will you please make sure you are also running the latest version (3.9.1) of The Events Calendar and The Events Calendar PRO?
Also, will you please run through the steps in this tutorial so we can check for conflicts?
I have a hunch that this is more related to how the shortcode queries the than it is with the events themselves, but let’s start with confirming any recent updates, updating the plugins, and testing for conflicts and go from there. 🙂
Thanks!

ParticipantI have done that and nothing changed .. I’ll have a developer look at it to doublecheck my work.

MemberThanks for checking and please do keep me posted!
I noticed that tags seem to be pulling correctly here:
http://www.gotomyrtlebeach.com/tag/0128/Hopefully looking into the shortcode a little more will help shed some light on what’s happening.
Thanks!

ParticipantThe developer I hired from the O-Desk couldn’t figure out anything either. The thing that bothers me the most is one of the 5 events we entered in Tuesday shows up in the post, but the others do not. They are all coded the EXACT same, so why wouldn’t all of them pull into the post with the same tag.
We run the events blog every week, and always tag the events we enter with a Wednesday date (0128, 0204, 0211) etc. This used to work correctly like a charm, but lately has been omitting events .. which is a huge traffic driver for us. Please offer some suggestions or a developer who I might give access to our site to look around and offer an estimate on a fix.January 29, 2015 at 7:46 am #938812Geoff
MemberHi there, Todd! Thanks for following up and sorry to hear this is still an issue.

Have there been any recent updates to the site? Have you updated the theme? How about other plugins? Are the The Events Calendar and The Events Calendar both up to date and running the same version (3.9.1)?
If things were working before and have now stopped, then that suggests there was a change made to the site and perhaps that can help pinpoint where to look.
Thanks!

ParticipantGeoff, yes, both our events calendar and events calendar pro are versions 3.9.1.
This issue began happening when we had made no updates to the site. We’ve since updated ALL plugins and WordPress themes, but I put all on hold to try your fix and that didn’t work either.
I’m very confused as to why ONE of the events we entered Tuesday would pull in, but others not. Is tried changing our shortcode to just events, but it pulled every event scheduled rather than just the upcoming week.
Here’s that code again: [slposts title_only=false excerpt_length=40 auto_excerpt=true thumbnail=true thumbnail_wh=250×250 thumbnail_re=thumbnail custom_post_type=tribe_events tag=0204 query_relation=AND sort_by_date=true instance=events]January 29, 2015 at 8:35 am #938823Geoff
MemberHey there, Todd! Thanks for the additional info and for working with me on this so far. I bet it’s pretty frustrating to have something work for a while then seemingly stop.
I see you are using the Single Latest Posts Lite plugin for the shortcode. Are you able to add something to the shortcode such as number_posts=10 to get more results?
Ultimately, while I understand the frustration here, this boils down to a compatibility issue with the Single Latest Posts Lite plugin and how it is pulling in events posts. I wish there was something I could do on our plugin’s end to help solve it, but I believe your best route in this case is to check in with the author of that plugin for additional guidance to see why it seems to exclude some posts from its query.
Sorry I don’t have a concrete solution for you here, but hopefully the Simple Latest Posts author will be able to help shed some more light.
Thanks,

MemberHey Todd! This thread’s been quiet for a couple of weeks, so I’m going to go ahead and close it. Please feel free to start a new thread if you have any additional questions and we’d be happy to help you out there. 🙂
