Currently my Site URL for my license is set to my local development server. So in the CMS of my production site, it says the license is out of installs. I want to change the site URL to my production url.

From my understanding, if I hit Disconnect Now, it will find my production URL automatically. However, I am also using the license key on production subdirectories as well as a staging site. Before I change anything, I just want to make sure that it will in fact pick up the URL from my root production URL.

    Thank you.

Good evening Dave and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us.
I would love to help you with this topic.

The simplest solution would be to first go through the following Knowledge base articles:

    1. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/license-key-out-of-installs/
    2. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/using-one-license-live-dev-sites/
    3. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/moving-your-license-keys/

This should make you a license key ninja.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

I have read all of these, thank you.

I still am unsure of how to proceed. Do I need to remove the license keys from the CMS in my local and staging site first? Will that negatively affect my local and staging sites? Do I need to remove the license from my subdirectories on production?

And if I disconnect the Site Url that is currently there (which is my local site), will it automatically pick up my root url for my production site?

    Good evening Dave,

Thank you for taking the time to write back. Let’s break down each question.

Do I need to remove the license keys from the CMS in my local and staging site first?

    Yes you do.

Will that negatively affect my local and staging sites?

Not really. The only thing is that you will not be able to update the plugins “automatically” (from the wp-admin interface).

Do I need to remove the license from my subdirectories on production?

Technically each domain or sub-domain counts as 1 license. In other words, unless you have a multisite or business license (you currently only have a personal license). Your license key can only be truly active on 1 domain or sub-domain at a time.

This is where the following article becomes useful: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/moving-your-license-keys/

And if I disconnect the Site Url that is currently there (which is my local site), will it automatically pick up my root url for my production site?

Only if you follow the exact sequence from the https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/moving-your-license-keys/ article.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

It is documented that you can have up to 10 subsites under 1 personal license.

    Good evening Dave,

I would be more than happy to take a look at the documentation you are referring to.
Would you mind sharing that along?

My usual go-to article for this is the following: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/what-does-buying-a-license-get-me/

    Have a great day!
