ParticipantHi, I have recently added Events Tickets Plus to one of my sites and am hoping to make it live for users but have come across a problem which is simply to do with the wording. On the main events views the button says ‘Join’ to go to the event details, however before I started using Events Ticket Plus we changed this to ‘More Details’ because it makes more sense to our users.
Since testing Events Tickets Plus I have realised that this wording pulls through to the button under the tickets tab on the right hand side on my page. This button is actually to purchase tickets, so it no longer makes sense. However I also think that ‘Join’ doesn’t work for this button either. Do the 2 buttons have to be the same? It makes more sense for the initial one to say ‘More Details’ and the second one to say ‘Buy Tickets’ or similar.
This can be viewed at http://interfaithfoundation.org/event/test-ticketed-event/
Thanks in advance.

ModeratorHey Matthew,
Welcome to the forums 🙂
The button should say “Add to Cart” on the single event page rather than “More Details”. It is a WooCommerce button and the “More Details” link is from The Events Calendar, so I’m not really sure as to why the button is taking on the incorrect text. This leads me to believe you’re experiencing a theme and/or plugin conflict.
I see you checked “Yes” to reverting to the default WP theme and deactivating all other plugins as outlined in our Testing for conflicts, but can you please confirm this?
Thanks for posting and I look forward to getting the issue resolved. Have a good remainder of your week!

ParticipantHello Hunter,
Thanks for the reply, on further testing I’ve realised that it is the coding that changed ‘join’ to ‘more details’ (carried out by a third party) that is causing the issue. Is there an easy way to change ‘join’ to ‘more details’ on the main views without it affecting the ticketing? My client requested this change originally because they felt that ‘join’ didn’t make as much sense on the button.
regards,
Matt

ModeratorHey Matt,
Unfortunately, I really wouldn’t know where to begin without having a deeper understanding of how your site is set up. When you say,
on further testing I’ve realised that it is the coding that changed ‘join’ to ‘more details’ (carried out by a third party) that is causing the issue
Do you mean you have a script running on your site from a third party that alters the button text? Again, I am really not sure as to how I can be of assistance as this appears to be a conflict relative to a source outside of the scope we’re able to provide.
I do wish I could be of more help and have a good rest of your day.

ParticipantHi Hunter,
Yes, the script was set up to change from ‘join’ to ‘more details’ as my client wasn’t happy with this wording.
What I was wondering was that if I disable this script so that the site works normally (i.e. ‘join’ on event and ‘add to cart’ on tickets) is there an easy way to change the ‘join’ wording to ‘more details’?
Regards,
Matt

ModeratorWelcome back,
The default text for The Events Calendar is “Find out more” – my apologies for telling you it was “More Details” in my previous post. If you remove that script then you should see “Find out more” when viewing the events list and “Add to Cart” on the individual event pages (when using WooCommerce tickets).
You can change the text for “Find out more” in list view by altering the bolded code below (found on line 70 in /the-events-calendar/src/views/list/single-event.php.) Follow the instructions in our Themer’s Guide to save your customizations properly.
Let me know how it goes and have a happy Friday 🙂

ParticipantHi Hunter,
Thanks for the update. I have just removed the script by switching to the proper theme rather than the child theme and my version definitely says ‘Join’ not ‘Find out more’. I updated all of my plugins last night so I am running 4.1.3 of The Events Calendar.
‘Find out more’ would be perfect if it was the case. Any idea why this would be?
regards,
Matt

ModeratorWelcome back,
Does the text change to ‘Find out more’ when reverting back to the default WP theme?

ParticipantHi Hunter,
I have just tested this and yes it does. Does tis mean it is something within the Vamtam ‘Church & Events’ theme?

ModeratorHello,
Yes, the theme appears to be somehow overriding the ‘Find out more’ text. I wish I was able to provide more assistance in locating the precise source of conflict but we’re unfortunately unable to help out with theme conflicts.
Thanks for understanding and now that you know where the conflict is coming from, it should make it a bit easier on coming up with a resolution. Good luck and have a good week.
