ParticipantHello!
This afternoon I purchased the $89 Events Calendar – Community Events in the hopes of getting this up and running fairly quickly enough. My primary goal is to have a viewable calendar of events for my readership, and for these calendar items to be submitted by both myself and site users.
I went through the steps of installation of set-up; my issue is that I cannot seem to get any page other than the ‘Submit an Event’ page to show up on my site. How exactly do I have these other pages (events list, edit event, etc.) become part of my site? Furthermore, I do not see how exactly I can have the calendar itself show up for my readers.
Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thank you!

MemberGood evening Heather and welcome to the Events Calendar Support forum!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are sorry to hear about your struggles in displaying the calendar simply.
I would love to help you on this topic.Simply put, with your exact combination of plugins, here are your options for displaying the calendar:
- In your WordPress menu, add a custom link to your main calendar page (by default http://www.michiganrunnergirl.com/events). You can tweak that URL in Events -> Settings -> General
- You will also need to add a custom link (which already seems to be the case) to the Submit Event page (by default http://www.michiganrunnergirl.com/events/community/add)
- You will also probably want a custom link to the view page (by default: http://www.michiganrunnergirl.com/events/community/list)
- You can change these last 2 URLs by going to Events -> Settings -> Community > General
- You can also display certain calendar elements using widgets
Let me know if that helps.
Have a great day!

ParticipantGood morning, Geoff!
Thank you for your reply – I really appreciate this!
I followed all of these steps, and I am still not seeing the calendar display. Perhaps I am not setting up these pages correctly? This is why I am wondering if it’s a permalink issue. I am creating new pages, with /events being the parent and then the ‘submit’ and ‘view’ page being beneath the parent page in the navigation. The only page that populates with info is the ‘submit’ one, because I had placed your shortcut within the content area.
This is what I am seeing (attached) when I go the main calendar page. Is there a widget or something I need to have on this page so that it displays in some kind of calendar form? I have added two calendar items, just to see if they’d show up…they don’t show up on a calendar; they only show when I’m in my dashboard and I click on Events -> Community – My Events.
I’m also getting this error (second screen shot) when I try to go to Events -> Settings -> Community Events.
Thank you for your continued help.

ParticipantHello again, Geoff–
One other quick thing: I even tried placing new content on the Events page (see below), published it, and still get the screen above saying there’s no content there. So something is definitely up…
Would you like to share your upcoming race or event with the Michigan Runner Girl community? We’re currently building out a searchable calendar of Michigan events and would like to include yours! Please enter event information below. If your organization is behind a road or trail race, a triathlon, or any other endurance/active living event in Michigan, we’d like to hear about it! Thank you.
These are free listings. For additional coverage of your event, please learn more about partnership opportunities by clicking here »
Ready to list your event? Get started here, on the Submit an Event page »
Please bear with us as we get this calendar up and running…it’ll be up and running (pun intended!) very soon!

MemberGood evening Heather,
Thank you for writing back and for all the extra very helpful information.
As a next troubleshooting step, could you please provide us with your complete system information in a private reply using the instructions found in the following link?
https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/
I’m sorry my recommendations did not help you get your calendar to display.
Let’s answer your very good questions.I followed all of these steps, and I am still not seeing the calendar display. Perhaps I am not setting up these pages correctly?
Actually, the calendar “pages” are not pages at all from a technical standpoint.
As such, you don’t need to create a page for the calendar to display at http://michiganrunnergirl.com/events
The Events Calendar takes care of all of the URL handling magic behind it.In fact, if you create a page OR sub-pages with that URL, the calendar will not show (just like you have been experiencing).
This is because, in order to operate properly, the plugin needs to have complete exclusivity on the URLs found in Events -> Settings -> General (Events URL slug and Single event URL slug)
I am creating new pages, with /events being the parent
Based your description and your screenshots, I believe the issue described above might be at play.
If I understand this correctly, you are creating pages that share the same slug as the Events Calendar in this case (with /events being the parent).
This leaves you with a couple of options:
- Rename and change the slug OR delete any page where /events is the parent.
- Delete or Rename any page that has the /events slug.
- Change the URLs found in Events -> Settings -> General to something other than “events” and “event”. You will need to re-save your permalinks after.
One other quick thing: I even tried placing new content on the Events page (see below), published it, and still get the screen above saying there’s no content there. So something is definitely up…
Yes, I believe that this is the same issue detailed above.
Hang tight as we work together at fixing this.
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

MemberGood afternoon Heather,
Thank you for writing back and for the system information.
One thing I notice in there is that you are using a snippet plugin (The Events Calendar: Snippet 950694). Unless you have a specific issue being addressed by it, I would recommend deactivating that plugin.
I also went ahead and deleted the pages with /events as a slug (three pages total).
It appears that following that, your calendar now works (look at http://michiganrunnergirl.com/events/).
All that would be left to do is to create a menu item to it if I am not mistaking 🙂
Let me know if that helps.
Have a great day!

ParticipantHi, Geoff–
Thank you for your reply. I’m still unable to view the calendar for some reason. I’m getting that same message I screenshot and sent earlier — here it is again.
I deactivated the snippet plugin.
The only thing I need to do is set up a menu item to the /events page (If I am understanding you correctly; however, I don’t quite understand how to do this — I have really only ever set up pages, which in turn populated my Menu section on the admin side. So I am confused about how to set up the /events as a menu. And then once I figure this out, do I set up the ‘submit an event’ page that way as well?
I appreciate all of your help…just feeling very confused and frustrated over here. :-/

MemberGood afternoon Heather,
I’m sorry about the confusion and frustration.
It is certainly not intended.I think there might be something I am missing.
What is the URL of the page that generates the screenshot ?On my end, if I go to http://michiganrunnergirl.com/events/ the calendar displays perfectly.
The only thing I need to do is set up a menu item to the /events page. I don’t quite understand how to do this
You will find a great tutorial on how to add custom URLs to your menu here: http://easywpguide.com/wordpress-manual/appearance/updating-the-menu/adding-a-custom-link-menu-item/
It all starts by going to Appearance > Menus
do I set up the ‘submit an event’ page that way as well?
Yes, absolutely.
Let me know if that helps or if you require additional information.
Have a great day and hang tight as we are wrapping this up!
