ParticipantHi – I have installed the events calendar plugin and then learned about the awesome PRO version. Purchased and installed. But WordPress is telling me that I have to update to the latest version of Events Calendar to get the PRO version working. When I click on the link, the popup tells me I have the latest version of the free version.
I have uninstalled the free and PRO versions – didn’t change anything. Also when I tried to reinstall I got messages about updating translations and the final message was “stack overflow.”
What should I do? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

MemberHi Joan and welcome to the forums!
I’m so sorry for the confusion and trouble here! It’s worth noting that both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO need to be installed and activated in order for the features to work.
Do you have both plugins installed and activated? Please do so if you have not already and let me know if that gets things in working order.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Thanks for your quick reply. I do have both installed. I will attach an image of a message I received when installing the plugin. Thanks for further insight.
Cheers, Joan

MemberHi Joan, thanks for following up!
Oh weird, I must admit I have not seen that error message pop up before.
When errors come up during installation, I often try manually installing the plugin instead. Would you be willing to try following the steps outlined in this post? It will walk you through how to do a manual installation of The Events Calendar and what I hope is that it avoids the need for WordPress to loop through all those update messages and give you a clean install.
Let’s see if that does the trick. If not, please do let me know and it would be a great help if you could also head to Events > Settings > Help, copy the system information at the bottom of the screen and paste it here for me as private reply to check other settings.
Thanks!

MemberHi Joan and thanks for following up!
I’ve been looking at this with a few other folks on the team and it looks like the combination of the site both running PHP 5.2 and on a Windows server is a likely culprit. If it’s possible to update PHP then that would be great, though it may not solve the full equation here.
In particular, it appears that the error comes up when attempting to update the plugin’s translation files. One workaround, if you’re willing to give it a try, is to delete all of the files from the following folder in the plugin: /lang
That will prevent WordPress from attempting to update the language files when the plugin is uploaded manually using a FTP application instead of through the WordPress admin which, in turn, should prevent that error from freezing the plugin update.
Let’s try that and see what we find.

ParticipantHi Geoff,
We are wondering if our issues would be resolved without the fixes that you recommend if we go back to the free version. Can you please let me know?
With thanks,
Dawn

MemberHi Joan,
Good question. Both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO should be installed on the site together so, you could deactivate Events Calendar PRO at any time and that will leave you with only the base/free plugin.
Does that have any impact on the update process for you?
Thanks,
