Hello. I’m having a bit of trouble with my purchased Events Cal Pro. For the life of me, I can’t seem to get my upcoming classes to display on the calendar. When I go in to create a new event, it shows up as text on the page, not on the calendar in the box of the respective date. Very confusing. I’ve changed the view from list to calendar and still nothing. I need to send an E-Newsletter out today with links to register for our classes, but I can’t do that until I get the calendar view situation straightened out. I want folks to click on the link in my newsletter, be directed to my “training” page on my website, view the calendar of events (that’s the part I can’t figure out), register for said event, pay and be done. Please help!!

    Thanks!

    Howdy mspointers,

Since we do not have a link to your site to view the problem in action, it is very difficult to say what is going on. From the sound of it your theme might be conflicting with the Plugin, overriding our JavaScript files with stuff of its own. These sorts of conclicts cause issue similar to the ons you desrcribe, assuming I understood you correctly. If you can provide it a link, it could be worth a thousand words!

If you are interested in getting this resolved quickly, could you also run through some diagnostic steps for me? First, could you try temporarily activating the default 2013 theme, and seeing if the issue persists.

If disabling the theme fixes it, we have narrowed the issue down to a theme conflict. Do you have any theme overrides for the Events Calendar? If so could you try disabling them by renaming your [themename]/tribe-events/ folder to ‘tribe-events-bak’. Did that fix it?

If the issue persists in the default 2013 theme, then we have a different set of debugging steps. Please keep the 2013 theme enabled, and also disable any plugins other than the ones from Modern Tribe to see if that fixes it. If it does, please try reenabling the plugins one at a time until the issue resurfaces. When it does resurface, can you let me know which plugin caused that to happen?

Does that make sense? Can you answer those questions once you have run through the steps? Please let me know. Cheers!

    Howdy again,

Thanks for the link and theme name. Looking through our forums it looks like the Avada theme does not work very well with Tribe plugins. I would not be surprised if conflicts with many other plugins as well:

I totally understand that you do not want to disable your current theme now that the site is live. Most developers in your shoes have two servers, a local one in which they can test and make changes, and a live one. This allows them to do things like change themes without affecting the live server. If you do not have a similar setup for private testing, then the only way we can proceed is for you to try enabling the 2012 on your public website. If you can not or will not do that, then there is not much more we can do to help. That is one of the most basic tests in the WordPress world to help you isolate/diagnose a problem. If you can not do basic WP tests due to your hosting setup, then unfortunately you can not really diagnose a problem and thus you and I can not really fix things. It’s sort of like tying your hands and blind folding yourself, then trying to repair a car engine. Does that make sense?

I am happy to help you as best I can. But I can not anything else we can try until you are able to test things with the theme disabled. Could you perhaps try it during low traffic hours? Please let me know what you’re thinking, thanks!

You are very welcome. I did as requested regarding your thread.

Unfortunately we can not really schedule live screen shares. If you do want to record you screen and post what you have done somewhere online for me to view later, that would work really well. If you could demonstrate what you are doing and point out what is not working that would make sure that we are on exactly the same page.

Again you are very welcome. Let me know if there is anything else we can do. Cheers!

    Hey Brook,

Sooooo… I opened up WP for a totally different domain that I haven’t worked in at all, so I haven’t even uploaded a theme as of yet. I activated the twenty thirteen theme and downloaded your Events Calendar plugin. Whaddaya know… Same issue. Maybe I’m missing as step, but I doubt it. To be clear, would you please give me the step by step instructions on how to accomplish my task? It should be pretty straight forward – Create new event, type the title in the header bar, type the text in the body below the header bar and hit preview (I don’t want it to go live). Should show the event inside its respective box on calendar, right? Not so. It displays my text at the top of the page, which is driving me bonkers. I made sure I changed the view to “month view” and still nothing. Maybe I’m missing something. I would really appreciate your help on this because I really need to get the calendar up and running like yesterday. Thanks in advance!

    Howdy msopointers,

Thank you for detailing this. I will take a look and get back to you on Monday if not sooner. I do apologize. I am just not able to dive in right now. I hope you have a great weekend, and I will be in touch.

    Howdy mspointers!

Thank you for the video! I am pretty sure that revealed the issue.

When you preview an event it is still a draft. Draft events do not appear on the front end until published, that way you can continuously modify them and get them just right before you publish. This is the same functionality as you get with posts & pages. It is pretty nice once you get the hang of it.

To make an event appear on the front end, click the publish button as pictured here.

Does clicking publish now fix everything? Please let me know. Thanks MSOPointers.

Yep, works like a charm. I thought the “preview” option would have given me a “calendar” view so I was a bit thrown off. I didn’t want to actually publish my dates because I wasn’t sure if it was go to display correctly. Happy to report that all of my dates are displaying on the calendar exactly as they should. Maybe I’ll tweak it over the summer and give it a bit more color and personality. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Absolutely! If you need any tips or quidance on how best to tweak aspect of the calendar, give us a holler. Very happy we got this working for you.

By the way, if you have a minute or two, we would love it if you could write a few words about the plugin here. If we don’t see you back until the Summer, then have lovely Spring!
