ParticipantHello, I tried to piggy back onto this Pre-Sales thread (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/multiple-calendars-5/#post-140655) but was told to create a new Tech support thread here, but my question follows up on what’s posted there…
I’m wondering if you could be a bit more specific about incorporating the category parameter into a link to the events page. For example, let’s say I set up two categories of events: “Member Only” and “Public”.
I want my main events calendar page to display only the public events (NOT include member events), and I want a separate page on my website to display JUST the Member Only events.
How would I do this? Thanks!April 29, 2014 at 11:43 am #145612Casey D
MemberHello eastbayaa,
Thanks for starting a new thread.
The short answer unfortunately is this is not fully supported at this time. If you have a moment, we’d love for you to submit this idea to our UserVoice forum. We take user ideas and contributions very seriously, and many times their ideas end up in our future releases.
The longer answer is that there are several ways to mostly implement what you want. You cannot make multiple calendars right now, but you can filter how you display the one. But I think each solution will fall short of what you are looking for:
Filter Bar
The Filter Bar plugin does exactly what you are asking and even has its own url scheme for sharing like you asked. For example on my local system, the following url represents the following screenshot. You could easily create categories and filter by “Member Only” and “Public” like I have for “Barbecue”. The issue of course is that the public could easily uncheck the filters and see every listed event, including “Member Only”. This might not be an issue, but seems like it would be.
Private Events
Another option is to make the “Member Only” events set to Private publishing. This makes it only available to people who are signed in with an account. If you look on the 29th and 30th, I set the Robert Campbell events to private, and they disappear off the public calendar. This way the actual events are hidden from the public, something you cannot do with just the Filter Bar. Of course however, you cannot filter by private events and thus there is no separate filtering.
S2Members
Certain user role plugins may give you more advanced functionality, for example https://www.s2member.com/. However we don’t currently support or endorse any 3rd party plugin for the functionality you are looking for. You may be able to find something useful though.
I wish I could give you a better answer!
Does this make sense? Let me know if I can explain anything else!
Cheers!
