Can I mass correct unending recurring events?

I imported an event calendar and spent a ton of time setting everything up. There are MANY recurring events, and I made them recur without end not realizing the performance issue it would cause. Now the site is horribly slow and I don’t want to try to fix each recurring event individually if it can be avoided. Is there a way to correct this en mass? I think my settings are they recur 2 years into the future, and really 6 months would be fine. If I change it, will they stay 2 years out (I assume it would only affect NEW recurring events). Also, when they are set to recur up to, for example, 6 months in the future, is a new one added each time we move forward a month so there’s always six months of that event showing into the future?

Thank you for reaching out to us! I’m so sorry to hear that you are having problems with your recurring events. Let me help you to solve this!

I believe the best option you have to solve this problem is:

1- Download and install our Recurring Event Cleanup Tool. After that, head over to Tools > Available tools. You’ll see a list (like this one). Backup you database and delete all recurrences for your events.

2- Head over to Events > Settings > General Settings and change the “Clean up recurring events after” and “Create recurring events in advance for” options to a smaller number to avoid new performance issues in the future.

3- Access each one of your events and recreate the instances as necessary.

Just so I am clear, by doing this, I am essentially deleting the events and will need to re-create them all?

Hi Sommer,

Answering your question: this tool would clean up all recurrences, leaving you with only the “main events”, so you can set them to recur up to 6 months in the future.

You can also follow the same steps already mentioned in step 2 (Head over to Events > Settings > General Settings and change the “Clean up recurring events after” and “Create recurring events in advance for” options to a smaller number ), and after that edit (i.e. just add a space or a character to the event description), and re-save each one of your recurring events, this way the recurrences would be regenerated. I know this is not exactly what you are looking for, but it’s the only workaround available at this time.
