ParticipantWhen I add the calendar widget to my sidebar – page loads speed dramatically increases – to a point where I can not use it.
We have currently 3,800 listings, mostly reoccurring events. Calendar works fine, but this may cause us to abandon this plugin – event listing are a big part of our site and SEO.
What can I do?
Thanks- Todd

ModeratorHey Todd,
Welcome back and I’m sorry to hear about the slow load times :-/
I like to start these types of questions off by checking our report of logged bugs and feature ideas. I didn’t see anything pertaining to load time issues when using the calendar widget which leads me to believe you may be experiencing a theme and/or plugin conflict. Have you reviewed our Testing for conflicts guide to see if that might be the case?
The amount of events may have something to do with performance, but a lot of that depends on your hosting environment and again, themes and/or other plugins. We have a Knowledgebase article geared towards addressing questions often asked in regards to site performance.
Let me know how the testing goes and have a good rest of the day.

ParticipantHunter – the widget was not enabled, so I’m not sure what widget you checked – I had to remove it, I’m referring the mini calendar widget. When enabled it reduces our page loads by almost 50%.
And yes I did the check list and it still happens.
Am I to assume this plugin is not recommended for larger sites if the # of events degrades it’s performance?
Thanks- Todd

ModeratorHey Todd,
Thank you for the response, though I’m admittedly a bit confused by the first paragraph. As previously stated, we don’t have any logged bugs of users reporting similar issues of slow load times when using the mini calendar widget.
I took a quick look at the list of plugins you’re currently using and it appears you’re not utilizing a caching plugin. Additionally, if you’re on a shared hosting environment, your speeds are going to be limited compared to a dedicated server or VPS, for example.
If you haven’t already, I invite you to read the KB article pertaining to performance when using our plugins. We do have many users with tens of thousands of events hosted on their sites, so it is possible, but speeds are determined by many factors unrelated to our plugin.
I hope this clarifies any questions you may have and please let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks again and take care!
