Calendar View Note Showing

We’re in the middle of building a site and building out calendars for three sites and are experiencing an issue with the calendars not displaying in calendar format, rather the calendar displaying as a blob of text. I found some comment in the forum about having post content be full rather than excerpt and played with that. I’ve deactivated the Canvas theme and activated the 2016 theme and things display correct.
