ParticipantHi, several issues:
1)Our calendar hangs/buffers with the spinning wheel of doom when you try to click forward into the next month.
2)I updated PRO and the license key installed under “The Events Calendar” in WordPress — when I try to click on the PRO plug in, it says I don’t have permission. I have admin-level permission in WordPress.
3)I deactivated the PRO plug-in and it didn’t seem to make a difference either way, but I am no longer seeing that we need to update.
4)PRO is listing as 3.5.2, The Events Calendar is 4.0.5January 19, 2016 at 8:26 am #1058712George
ParticipantHey @Susanna,
Sorry to hear about these issues!
If Events Calendar Pro is listing as version 3.5.2, that is a very out-of-date version of that plugin and so the first order of business is updating that to the current version, which at present is version 4.0.4.
However, I noticed that in your “system information”, Events Calendar Pro is not listed at all. Why is this?
The only Modern Tribe plugins are The Events Calendar and Image Widget – I don’t see Events Calendar Pro. Did you remove Events Calendar Pro from your site?
Thank you!
GeorgeP.S.
To get the files for version 4.0.4 of Events Calendar Pro so that you can update to this version, you can find the files here: https://theeventscalendar.com/my-account/downloads/January 19, 2016 at 8:40 am #1058720stoneleighburnhamschool
ParticipantThank you.
I had momentarily deactivated PRO because it wasn’t working.
When I click the link to download PRO, it says I’ve already downloaded. I purchased a new license key yesterday.
The license key is showing up under The Events Calendar, but not under PRO.
When I click “Settings” under the PRO plug in it hangs, I get a gray screen, and this message:
“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
I have admin-level access on WP.January 19, 2016 at 8:43 am #1058722stoneleighburnhamschool
ParticipantI just tried to download and install and got this message:
Installing Plugin from uploaded file: events-calendar-pro.4.0.4.zip
Unpacking the package…Installing the plugin…
Destination folder already exists. /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/
Plugin install failed.

ParticipantI have now updated WordPress and Genesis to current versions. I am tempted to delete Events Calendar PRO and start over installing but I don’t know if the data that has been entered on it is tied to “The Events Calendar” which still seems to be functioning at the current version or if it is tied to “PRO.” I have backed up the data. I have seen the notes about not updating the free version without the pay version, but I’m trying to clean up a mess here that was generated by someone else. Please give me some suggestions about what to do next. Thank you.

ParticipantAfter spending hours on this today I have resolved issues # 2, 3, 4. Calendar is still hanging/buffering when anyone tries to click to the next month.

ParticipantHi Susanna,
I am glad you’re up to date, that’s the first step here and good for security, stability, etc.
I checked out your calendar page anew and see this JavaScript error show up on the page when trying to paginate months:

I’m not 100% certain if my suggestion here will help, but I would recommend you try out a custom support plugin I have written for you to try and resolve this.
To get the plugin, first download here → https://cloudup.com/cwcfeKGvwNp
Then just install and activate that like any other plugin.
Let me know if it helps!
George
P.S. – More information about the plugin
Hey Susanna,
I just wanted to elaborate a bit on the above plugin I shared with you. Basically, the error seen on your site seems to be related to the fact that scripts like jQuery are being loaded over HTTPS, but not correctly. I’m not sure why it’s happening incorrectly, but a potential solution here is to simply remove the https:// section of the script URL.
That’s what the plugin I shared with you does 🙂
I hope it helps!

ParticipantThanks George, I downloaded/uploaded/activated and unfortunately we’re still getting the hanging. Any other suggestions? Is this something to do with our hosting, or our page template setup? I really appreciate your help.

ParticipantI’m really sorry to hear this Susanna!
I would recommend deactivating my plugin now since it is not helping here.
I appreciate your patience a lot here and am sorry about the persistence of this issue. To recap, the cause seems to be that some of your assets (like JavaScripts and CSS) are coming over HTTPS, while others (like the admin-ajax.php file seen in my above reply’s screenshotted error message) are coming over HTTP.
Since my plugin did not help, there are three things left on the table that I can think of going through that are valuable troubleshooting steps. Here they are in the order I would recommend trying them out:
- 1. Update your version of WordPress Core. You may have done this already; sorry if so! But in your first post, your site’s “System Information” shows your site is running version 4.3.2 of WordPress. WordPress is now at version 4.4.1, and so just to rule this out as a variable, I would recommend updating to 4.4.1. This is also good for security purposes.
- 2. Go to Settings > General in your WordPress site. Look for the WordPress Address and Site Address options as shown here: https://cloudup.com/ck2sApSnurx. Do your URLs start with http:// here, or https:// ? If they start with http://, try changing it to https:// and then save your changes. Have a look at the month view hanging issue, and see if anything improves.
- 3. If nothing changes after steps 1 and 2, then I would recommend you check out the steps in this article → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/testing-for-conflicts/
I know you have already done a substantial amount of testing here; these steps, however, are specifically focused on ruling out (or revealing) a plugin or theme code conflict. So I would recommend doing these steps. After EACH STEP in the process, check out your site’s month view and see if the issue persists.
The results of the above three tests will reveal a lot of information about this issue – though unfortunately they won’t necessarily resolve it 🙁 So, just to be clear, this may indeed be an issue stemming from something deeper on your site, like the SSL Certificate’s configuration or some server settings.
So while you get started on the steps above, I would recommend also opening a support ticket with your webhost describing the problem.
I’m sorry this issue is still persisting; it’s an odd one and I reall appreciate your patience with this!
Keep me posted on your findings with the above steps and what your webhost says if you reach out to them.
Thank you,
GeorgeJanuary 21, 2016 at 9:59 am #1060009stoneleighburnhamschool
ParticipantHi George,
#1 I had already done.
I just tried #2 and now it looks like the site is down after “too many redirects.” I now cannot access WordPress at all.
I’ve left a message for our webhost.January 21, 2016 at 11:47 am #1060051George
ParticipantThanks for reporting this Susanna. I’m very sorry about the new issue where your site is down, however this sort of thing does seem to be at the root of the problem and I hope it leads to a correction of the mismatched HTTP protocols being used! Your database, .htaccess, and site settings should all be on the same page with regards to what URLs on your site are using HTTPS…this is hopefully the first step in that direction.
I’m sorry for the trouble Susanna, please keep us posted on things!
Thanks,
GeorgeJanuary 21, 2016 at 11:55 am #1060056stoneleighburnhamschool
ParticipantThank you, we seem to be up and running after resolving these conflicts. Your help is much appreciated!
January 21, 2016 at 12:06 pm #1060064George
ParticipantNice! I checked out the /events page on your site and indeed no longer see the same mixed-content error as before. Glad to see this 🙂
Thank you for your patience here, Susanna. I’ll close up this thread for now but please open a new thread any time if other issues arise.
Sincerely,
George -
