Anna
ParticipantHello, the main page for events on my site (citylore.org/events) is totally blank. I updated all plugins, but it’s still not working. I don’t know how to troubleshoot this — any ideas?

ParticipantThe page IS working on our staging site: http://citylo.staging.wpengine.com/events/

ParticipantHey Anna,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
I apologize for any issues you’ve had in updating the plugins. To help in troubleshooting, would you mind temporarily turning on WP_DEBUG on the live site? This should show us the exact error that is happening and give us an idea of where to look.
Thanks!

ParticipantOk, I think I turned it on successfully. Thanks for taking a look.

ParticipantHey Anna,
Thanks for following up!
Strange, it doesn’t appear to be giving us any additional information here. One thing you may try, since this happened during an update, is to re-download the files from your account here of the latest version of the plugin. You can then delete the existing files off of your computer and replace with the new ones.
It’s possible that there might not have bee a full download (or full migration from staging of changes) with the last round of updates and doing the above would address that issue.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantOk, I did that — downloaded new versions of both events calendar and events calendar pro. Deleted them off my site and uploaded the new ones via FTP. Didn’t help. I also tried grabbing the old versions from my staging site, and putting those on the live site. Still same problem. Any other ideas?

ParticipantI also just tried updating the plugins on my staging site, and the events page still works. So even with both live and staging using the same version of your plugins, staging is working and live is just a white screen. I went through the text of several recent posts, and checked the tags for anything strange. I deleted a bunch of extra <div> etc, but nothing really looked off to me. Please help!

ParticipantI don’t know if this is related, but the styling looks slightly different:

ParticipantHey Anna,
Thanks for following up with us.
The differences shown here could definitely be a sign. However, I would expect once we turned debugging on that any code level issues here that were causing the page to crash would have error messaging displayed here. You could try adding the debug log option from here and seeing if any error information gets added to an error log that isn’t getting displayed?
Being on WPEngine and your staging site working the way you would like, have you tried copying your staging site to your live site to see if the issue persists? If there are content differences between the two sites, WPEngine does have an option for just migrating the site files and not the database.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantHey,
Thanks for following up with us!
The notes from WPEngine are very interesting. So it looks like there is something in the database most likely associated with the events meta that is causing this issue. Would you mind sending us a database dump of the latest content that is breaking the site so we can do some testing with your database content here?
Thanks!

ParticipantYes, but how do I generate such a database dump? Can I give you access to my WordPress account?

MemberHi Anna, just following up with you while Josh is out on a much-deserved vacation!
Your host can help you with a database dump. Or, I do know there are some plugins that will do that for you in WordPress, for example WP-DB Manager. We would love to help you but we unfortunately our terms prevent us from logging into your site.
Cheers!

ParticipantHey Anna,
Thanks for providing this database information. I’ll test out this data to see if anything shows up when debugging the information here.
Thanks!
