GuestHi There,
I bought a theme from a theme template developer in theme Forrest, I literally bought their theme template because I saw how awesome the calendar feature was within their template.
After spending many many hours developing the site we ran into a problem where we couldn’t get the calendar features to get going. We contacted the template author and theme forresst and both have basically said that they can’t help me and if I want a refund they would provide it to me.
this isn’t an option as
1. Only now after I complained have they updated the information on the theme to clearly state that the plugin was not included
2. to offer me a $59 refund when I’ve spent thousands of dollars is a slap in my face.
for now we have launched your free plugin and have resorted to contacting your company directly to discuss.
I’m hoping you will be in a position to help us as we feel very betrayed and mislead by someone using your awesome product to fish themselves clients and create a negative feeling towards your brand.
Thanks,
Derek

MemberHi Derek,
First off, thanks for reaching out. I hear the frustration in this post and can understand feeling frustrated myself having made an investment in something that isn’t working as I’d expect it to.
And, frankly, we share some of that frustration as well. We work hard to create and maintain a product we are very proud of and set a high bar for being able to support it. It doesn’t sit well with us if The Events Calendar is used in ways it isn’t intended or is used in a way that reflects poorly on us here at Modern Tribe.
That said, we also know there is always that sort of risk with open-source software. The Events Calendar itself is totally open and available to anyone free of charge–in other words, we give the code away in the same spirit that WordPress gives its code away and makes itself susceptible to the same scenario. For example, that same theme is using the WordPress name as a way to earn customers.
This totally isn’t trying to negate your concerns. Rather, just trying to add context to the complexity of the WordPress environment as a whole.
If you do have Events Calendar PRO or one of our other premium licenses, I would encourage you to open a thread or two in our Events Calendar PRO forum outlining the issues in more detail so we can help look into them with you. As you can imagine, we can’t guarantee that we can solve all issues that are directly related to custom development or theme conflicts, but we are always happy to give it our best go and–at the very least–find the right direction to go in order to figure it out.
I really appreciate you taking the time to not only bring the situation to our attention, but letting us know how it affects you as well. Please do let me know you have any other follow-up questions or thoughts here and I’d be happy to help as best I can.
Sincerely,
Geoff -
