Cannot get event calendar plugin to load.

I purchased another license today, went to the page

New User Primer: The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro

And realized that I had downloaded and installed the PRO plugin first.

I deactivated and deleted the PRO plugin through the Plugins page of WordPress.

I then downloaded the zip file for the free version, the-events-calendar.4.5.2.1.zip

I went to the plugins page, clicked new plugin, navigated to the zip file, clicked install, and get this error message: “The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads.2017/05.

I figured there might already be a copy of the zip in that folder so I ftped to the site and deleted all event calendar zip files from /2017/05/.

I then tried again to use the Plugins page of WordPress to install, and got the same error as above.

I tried ftping the folder to /plugins/. It uploaded but the EVENTS link in in the black vertical nav bar in the WordPress backoffice did not show up.

    Please help. The site is:

Good evening Jean and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We are sorry to hear about the issues you have faced while trying to install Pro. Yikes!
I would love to help you with this topic.

I must say this is a pretty odd error message. It is as though something is forcing the plugins to be installed in the /wp-content/uploads/ folder for some reason.

So using FTP only, my recommendation would be to:

    1. Delete completely /wp-content/uploads/the-events-calendar
    2. Repeat this process for events-calendar-pro

Once that is done, still using FTP only:

    1. Drop your freshly downloaded unzipped copy of the Events Calendar in /wp-content/plugins/
    2. Walk over to the plugins page and activate the plugin
    3. If that works, repeat this process for events-calendar-pro

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.
