I’ve bee using EC Pro on all our sites in various languages. One feature is troublesome for all – and that is the timezone use.

Our desire is to enter a LIVE STREAM event time and date in our own timezone and THEN when the visitor displays the event, (no matter where they are located in the world) they would see THEIR local converted timezone.

Is that possible? If so – how? And don’t just point me to the documentation please. Walk us through a scenario if this is possible.

    Hey Julie,

    Thanks for contacting us!

You can make this change by following these steps:

Please go to Events -> Settings -> General, scroll down to the Timezone Settings and click the Update Timezone Data button.

After that you will then have access to two timezone options:

    • Timezone mode: Default option is to use the site’s timezone everywhere on the calendar. You can change it to use local timezones for each event, which are configured on individual event pages.
    • Show timezone: Allows you to display the timezone code (e.g. PST or BST) next to event times on the front end.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else in the mean time!

    Regards,

    Patricia

    Hi Patricia
I already have pressed the update timezones button a while back. Please give specific settings for this case scenario:

I want to enter the event for June 30 at 9am-10am Mt. when a visitor in Colombia sees this event on our site I want the event to automatically appear in his COT time zone.

Which setting specifically makes this possible?

    Hi Julie,

If you change your settings to use local timezones for each event, it will do exactly what you want: you can create an event to happen tomorrow at 5PM CDT and people from other countries will see this event their local timezone. You will find further information about timezones in the following link:

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/working-with-timezones/

If you have further questions, please let me know!

    Regards,

    Patricia

This still isn’t working for us. Here https://iglesialuteranacristo.com/event/test-event/ I’ve created a test event using the server timezone (COT) which is in Columbia time. I am in Central Time zone Milwaukee Wisconsin. The event displays in COT time and does not convert the event info (time) automatically for my timezone. It is still displaying the event in COT timezone.

What are we doing wrong? (see attached view)

    Hi Julie!

Please accept my sincere apologies as I misunderstood your initial request. The options presented earlier in this thread will allow you to use your WordPress timezone OR local timezones for each event. None of these options will automatically update the date and time of your event based on the user’s local timezone.

I think it would be possible to filter the times and dates, but that would require some customization.

I would start with the Themer’s Guide and getting down to the functions that show the time and start there.

We do have a list of recommended developers who could help you out with the code if you need it:

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/find-a-customizer/

If this is something you want to see implemented in future releases, I would recommend casting a vote in our Feature Ideas forum to let us know.

Let us know if you need anything else and have a great weekend!

I’ve since added a feature request here:
    https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/20016133-display-events-automatically-in-web-visitor-s-time

The web provides alternative solutions (half baked in my opinion) that should instead be part of a PROFESSIONAL calendar solution. You provide a world map, numerous languages – but not a timezone conversion? That is your core business to inform people of events they they may attend!

    Hi Julie,

Thanks for posting your request in our Feature Ideas forum! We are constantly working to improve our calendar and include new features for our customers: unfortunately the option to automatically update the time of your event based on user’s local timezone is not available yet, but it might be in the future.

Thank you for your feedback and if you need anything else, please let us know!

    Regards,

    Patricia

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
