Hi. I have discovered another minor issue which may or may not be related to this ticket that was recently closed (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/event-category-pages-showing-all-events-not-just-specified-category/#post-922523).

I am using the free version of the plugin (The Events Calendar) on a development site (http://www.lfcc.edu/dev/).

Everything works fine in Chrome. However, when I use Safari and visit the main event listing page (http://lfcc.edu/dev/events/) and click on the month link in the lower right (For example January), no events show even though one should be listed for that month. If I continue to click through to the next month, again, no events show. However if I manually refresh the page, the events do show.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hello again!

That’s no good. I actually do not think this is related. The issue you have described crops up, and unfortunately every time it seems to be the result of a plugin conflict. Sometimes a caching plugin.

Can you try testing for a conflict? I think that will reveal the culprit. If it is a caching plugin, does simply clearing the cache help? If it’s a security plugin, does disabling WP Admin lockdowns make it work?

Let me know and I can assist you further.

    Cheers!

Hi. I have looked into this and found it is not an issue with a plugin. The thing is when I enable the list view as the default, the events show up fine. It is only with the calendar view the problem occurs. Is there a certain code the calendar view uses that might be blocked by something else on my side of things? Oddly enough it works fine on the other site we are using this one (http://www.lfcc.edu/focus) which runs nearly the same types of plugins.

    Howdy again ariddle,

Thanks for being patient over the holidays!

Is there a certain code the calendar view uses that might be blocked by something else on my side of things?

Not that I can think of. Is it possible that there were other differences between your Safari and Chrome tests? Like were you logged out in one and not the other? Were you viewing the exact same months? Did you get to the URL directly, or via a link? It is theoretically possible that Safari would be served different content. It definitely is on mobile Safari anywhere WP uses the is_mobile() function. But, that is rare and I have yet to see it hide events. So that is why I am suspicious there might have been another difference.

I don’t see that dev site as online anymore.  If you are still experiencing this issue on a live site, could you link me to it as well? I would like to dive in a bit more if none of the above helps us narrow it down.

    Thanks ariddle!

    Brook,

Hi. In my tests I am not realizing even Chrome displays the events oddly. For instance, on this page where I am using the plugin (I have put it in list view as the default due to the issue with Safari):

    http://www.lfcc.edu/events/

I have some events input in for January, February and March. When the page loads, all looks fine. The event displaying at the bottom of the page is for January 30. See this screenshot: ______

However if I scroll down and select “Next Events >>”, when the page loads, it shows the January 30 event at the top, and then lists the events again in reverse order…going from January 28, 27, 19 all the way down to where it then begins with February. See this screenshot: ____

If I then click on “Next Events” again, it does not show any more events, even though I have one posted for March 1. Which you can see here: http://www.lfcc.edu/event/this-is-a-test-event/

This happens in both Chrome and Safari on the mac…and also whether I am logged in or out of the site as an administrator.

I hope you can help me out! Thank you.

Forgive me but I forgot to include the screenshots. Here is my post again with them included:

Forgive me, I missed your response yesterday!

That is interesting. I have a strong suspicion that your theme or perhaps a plugin you are running is designed to be specifically compatible The Events Calendar. But, it has not been updated since version 3.7 of Events Calendar. Our paging behavior changed in 3.8 and might have broken compatibility. Could you a conflict test (click here) to see if that is this case?

You are not running this snippet (click here) perchance are you? You would have had to find to previously find that snippet and copy/paste it into your theme’s functions.php file. If you are running that, before the conflict test you might try temporarily removing this snippet. It could fix the site.

Thanks for helping clarify the problem. I am seeing it too in my tests.

    Brook,

Hi. I figured out that there was a plugin conflicting with the ordering of the events in the list view, so that has been resolved. However, the initial problem still persists….I have a run a conflict test and the issue is still popping up. Here is the initial problem:

Everything works fine in Chrome. However, when I use Safari and visit the main event listing page (http://lfcc.edu/events/) and click on the month link in the lower right (For example January), no events show even though one should be listed for that month. If I continue to click through to the next month, again, no events show. However if I manually refresh the page, the events do show.

    Hey ariddle!

Brook requested I help with the Safari testing of this issue. I looked at the last link you provided (http://lfcc.edu/events/) and noticed the issue you described with Safari. However, I noticed a javascript error and tested with other browsers and noticed that it didn’t work in any browser that I tested. Additionally, I tested on my default local install and wasn’t able to replicate the issue.

If you wouldn’t mind, could you verify that you have completed our Testing for Conflicts procedures to ensure that there isn’t a plugin or theme conflict causing the issue? Also, if you have a cache plugin installed, try disabling and purging the cache prior to deactivating the plugin to ensure the issue doesn’t persist with everything deactivated and a default theme installed.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!
