This may be the wrong place to post this but since you guys develop both plugins (Events Calendar and Advanced Post Builder) I thought I might give it a try.

I’ve added a custom input to the quick edit box for “tribe_events” posts. When I update my post through the quick edit box, the meta data is updated but the frontend for the event list breaks format (see screenshots). It seems like when I call the update_post_meta function, the event row is populated with the default column data (title, author, categories, etc), instead of the columns selected in advanced post builder (Title, Organizer, venue, etc). When I deactivate the advanced post builder plugin, there is no longer a problem and the front layout does not break.

Any idea what is causing this problem, or possible workarounds? Perhaps there is another way I should be updating the meta information after capturing the users input, besides update_post_meta?

    Thanks!

    Hey Russell,

I don’t mean to be facetious with my leading question here, I just genuinely want to be 100% certain that I know what you’re referring to: when you say, “Advanced Post Builder”, you are referring to our plugin Advanced Post Manager, right?

I only ask for clarification because I don’t see our Advanced Post Manager filters in your screenshots, and we do not make a plugin called Advanced Post Builder.

In the meantime, can you also post your “System Information” here? I will investigate this with that information in hand. Here’s how to share it → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/

    Cheers,
    George

I don’t know why I didn’t perform this test beforehand, but I’ve confirmed that this problem still occurs after removing the code generating the custom quick edit input. In fact it occurs after removing all plugins from the site, save for events calendar, events calendar PRO, and advanced post manager.

Also, as far as I can tell, this bug only affects the front-end. The meta data seems to be updating properly.

    Hey @Russell,

Thanks for this information. Sorry for what might be another obvious-sounding question, but just to be clear, when you have everything deactivated except for The Events Calendar, Events Calendar Pro, and Advanced Post Manager, are you still working with a custom field that you have custom-coded into place?

    1. Or is all custom code that you added entirely removed?

I only ask for such clarification because I cannot recreate problems on my own local site with all the same plugin versions that you have.

For one additional question here, in your original post you write this:

When I update my post through the quick edit box, the meta data is updated but the frontend for the event list breaks format (see screenshots).

    2. What do you mean about the “front-end”? All of the screenshots you posted are in the back-end, admin-facing admin column in your site.

    3. What specifically are you updating?

    4. Does it make a difference what you update?

Thanks for your patience here! Just trying to recreate your issues so I can try to back-engineer a solution. 🙂

    Sincerely,
    George

    1. Yes all custom code has been removed. I am able to recreate the issue on a local install of wordpress using the 2016 theme and with Version 4.1.2 of the events calendar, Version 4.1.2 of the events calendar pro, and version 4.1.1 of the advanced post manager as the only active plugins. My local is running php version 5.6.2

    2. By front-end i mean the html and CSS. As far as I can tell the php that saves the meta data to the database functions as it should. This error only causes the layout of the admin panel to break.

    3. I do not need to update anything for this error to occur. Simply open the quick edit box, hit save, and the layout breaks.

    4. See #3

Attached are screenshots that show the issue a little better.

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for this information, Russell, and for your patience with my clarifying questions!

I was able to reproduce the problem here and will write up a bug ticket so that we can get this fixed. I tried to see if I could reliably fix it with just a few lines of CSS, but it’s not sufficient and a proper solution from a developer is required here.

I don’t have an ETA for when a fix would arrive for this, but it would hopefully not be more than a few weeks from now.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
    George
