    Hi,

Since the last update, we are getting a 404 error page when going to the main event page (https://myelitis.org/events). We tried several of the Troubleshooting suggestions in the knowledgebase (https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/fixing-http-404-errors) but nothing seems to fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hey @Roberta,

I’m really sorry to hear about this—I cannot recreate 404 problems on my own site, so I’m curious about a few things here.

First, can you clarify what your site’s Permalinks settings are? These are literally in the Settings → Permalinks page in your wp-admin, for reference; are they set to %postname%, for example?

Next, you mention trying the steps in that Knowledgebase article about permalinks—this is excellent and I’m glad you tried those steps. I’m sorry they didn’t help, of course, but with this in mind, you might find it worthwhile to also do all of the steps on this Knowledgebase article → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/testing-for-conflicts/

If you do those steps, what do you find? Check on the Events page after EACH STEP of that process and see if there is any progress along the way….

    Thank you!

    Hi,

i’ve got the same problem on a german translated wordpress site. It occurres after the last update. Try the listed fixes. But no one will help.

Permalinks and events calendar community plugin (community/add and community/list) working fine. Event detail pages also. Only the calendar site (events/) returning an 404 error.

I have no more idea how to fix this.

Hope you have soon any solution for this.

    Thank you.

I unfortunately have to echo the comments above. Also getting a 404 error after the last update, and also have run through the gamut of solutions and troubleshooting options to no avail.

    Hi folks,

I’m sorry to hear about all of these issues. As noted I cannot recreate the problem, so I’m not certain if there’s bug proper here.

@Robert, can you post your System Information in this thread? I will investigate that and see if I can spot anything troublesome.

    Thank you!

Hey Henrik, and everyone in fact,

If you activate a default theme like Twenty Sixteen, and then deactivate ALL plugins on your site except for only The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro, do you have any progress with your issues?

If you don’t at first, what if you leave your site in this state and then head to Settings → Permalinks in your wp-admin, and just click “Save Changes” without making any changes? Though it seems odd, this little “trick” might help refresh the site’s permalinks and make a difference when your site is in the above-described state.

⚠️ To anyone who has the issues described in this thread: since we have still not isolated a bug here, and I cannot recreate the problem, if you have the issues @Roberta and others describe, please try the steps I just recommended to Henrik above and let me know if they make a difference with your issues in any way.

Thank you all so much for your patience and persistence here—like I noted, I’m still not recreating these issues and we don’t have a specific bug report for something like this yet, so some further investigation is unfortunately still necessary here. 🙁

    Sincerely,
    George

    Hi,

Apologies for the delay, I just saw all the replies to this thread. As mentioned earlier, we’ve tried all possible steps and nothing fixed it. On top of it, it has gotten worse. Now not only does the main event page not work, but also the individual events (e.g. https://myelitis.org/event/power-sharing-stories). We heavily rely on this plugin to spread the word about our events and fundraisers, and the links to these events are shared on several posters and flyers. We would really need for this issue to be fixed as soon as possible!

    @George
About the permalinks: we have them set to post name.

Please let me know what other information I can provide in order for you to be able to help us solve this!

Update: I just clicked on the save button in the permalinks section and now the individual event links do work again, the main event page still isn’t working though. I thought this might be useful.

Thank you for this update, @Roberta!

In regards to your issues, do you happen to have a page on your site called “Events”, or that is trying to use that slug “/events” on your site?

You can check this by going to the literal “Pages” section in your wp-admin—if you have a page like this, try deleting it, because if there is a page trying to use the same slug as the Events slug then it could cause breakages like you experience.

Also, Roberta, you mention having tried all debugging steps, but just to be 100-percent clear, have you done the same exact steps I recommended to Henrik in the reply above your most recent one:

If you activate a default theme like Twenty Sixteen, and then deactivate ALL plugins on your site except for only The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro, do you have any progress with your issues?

If you don’t at first, what if you leave your site in this state and then head to Settings → Permalinks in your wp-admin, and just click “Save Changes” without making any changes? Though it seems odd, this little “trick” might help refresh the site’s permalinks and make a difference when your site is in the above-described state.

When your site is in the 2016 theme with only The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro active, you have the same exact issues?

I just want to confirm that; because I unfortunately cannot recreate this problem. 🙁 Let me know about this and we move on to other troubleshooting methods from here.

Thank you all for your patience and persistence here!

    Sincerely,
    George

    Hi George,

I followed your instructions. First, I looked for a page called events in our pages section. There wasn’t any page name called Events or slug /events.

I also activated the 2016 theme, deactivated all plugins except for the Event Calendar and The Event Calendar Pro. The page still didn’t work. I went to the permalinks section and hit save and refreshed the Events page; nothing changed. It still gives me the 404 error. I’m attaching screenshots of the process as well..

Thanks so much for all of this testing and for these screenshots, @Roberta—I’m so sorry about the nature of this bug and about the back-and-forth here!

It’s a confusing issue because I cannot create the problem no matter what I try.

This leaves us in a weird spot, because from here the only further troubleshooting steps I can recommend would be to contact your web host support team to see if they notice anything on your server’s .htaccess file that could be preventing proper functionality here.

I doubt there is such an issue at play here, and you do not have to to do this step by any means—I’m just saying that this is about the only other step I can think of that you can actively do.

In the meantime, I am going to escalate the level of investigation we do on this. I know there are some bugs related to calendar links in our most recent updates, and we’re working hard on fixing these, but there aren’t any bugs reported thus far related specifically to the main calendar link. Perhaps this is just a deeper part of the other bugs that we’ve yet to find—but I will rope in some other, more skilled developers and see what we can find.

I’m sorry that we’re at such an inconclusive point with these issues right now! I appreciate your patience and will keep this thread updated with information as soon as I learn anything more here.

    Thank you,
    George

    Hi All,

I have an update. We asked our developer to look into the issue and he told me to forward this to you:

I started from our install, moved it to a dev version, changed the theme and disabled all the plugins. Then I changed the /events/ slug to something else. I would still get a 404 error (though weirdly enough, the “events” title would still appear in the title bar for the 404 page on /events/, showing that the plugin code was triggering at that URL). I also deleted all the event posts, venue organisers etc. Still no luck.
Having pretty much reset the plugin to factory default, I concluded it had to do with how the plugin was installed on our site.
I disable the plugin, deleted the following 2 options from the wp_options table: tribe_events_calendar_options and tribe_events_db_version. When I re-enabled the plugin the problem disappeared. I am pasting the previous contents of the plugin options so you can use this to troubleshoot.

    tribe_events_db_version – was 3.0.0
    tribe_events_calendar_options – setting contents:
    a:52:{s:27:”recurring_events_are_hidden”;s:6:”hidden”;s:19:”tribeEventsTemplate”;s:0:””;s:16:”stylesheetOption”;s:4:”full”;s:20:”tribeDisableTribeBar”;b:0;s:21:”tribeEventsBeforeHTML”;s:0:””;s:20:”tribeEventsAfterHTML”;s:0:””;s:21:”previous_ecp_versions”;a:16:{i:0;s:1:”0″;i:1;s:5:”3.9.3″;i:2;s:6:”3.10.1″;i:3;s:4:”3.11″;i:4;s:6:”3.11.2″;i:5;s:6:”3.12.1″;i:6;s:6:”3.12.2″;i:7;s:6:”3.12.3″;i:8;s:6:”3.12.6″;i:9;s:3:”4.0″;i:10;s:5:”4.0.4″;i:11;s:5:”4.0.5″;i:12;s:5:”4.0.6″;i:13;s:5:”4.0.7″;i:14;s:3:”4.1″;i:15;s:7:”4.1.0.1″;}s:18:”latest_ecp_version”;s:5:”4.1.1″;s:29:”disable_metabox_custom_fields”;s:4:”hide”;s:18:”pro-schema-version”;s:3:”4.1″;s:19:”defaultValueReplace”;b:0;s:10:”viewOption”;s:4:”list”;s:13:”earliest_date”;s:19:”2014-04-05 00:00:00″;s:11:”latest_date”;s:19:”2016-10-15 17:00:00″;s:13:”custom-fields”;a:2:{i:4;a:4:{s:4:”name”;s:13:”_ecp_custom_4″;s:5:”label”;s:8:”Register”;s:4:”type”;s:3:”url”;s:6:”values”;s:0:””;}i:6;a:4:{s:4:”name”;s:13:”_ecp_custom_6″;s:5:”label”;s:11:”RSVP Needed”;s:4:”type”;s:8:”checkbox”;s:6:”values”;s:7:”Yes

After all of this I went in and changed the display mode (in the settings panel) to maps and that’s when the error re-occured. So we’re assuming there is something going on with the map, or at least what we know for sure is that the map is triggering the 404 error.

I hope this helps and we can get to the bottom of this.

    Thanks,
    Roberta

    Hey Roberta,

    Thank you for sharing that!

I still do not produce any such problems here, but am glad that there was a bit of progress originally with your developer’s exploring. The fact that the problem reappeared after simply changing the view type is an extra layer of oddity here….

I’m sorry about the continued nature of this bug!

The only thing I could recommend at this point would be to ensure that you try updating all of your plugin versions to 4.1.1, which is our most recent update—version 4.1.1 is available for all plugins, so update The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro to 4.1.1 and let me know if it makes any impact here!

Both plugins are set to the latest version.

What if you try replicating the problem with the enfold theme? I think that could have something to do with it.
