    Barry,

Like I said – I don’t need a fix right now (for other reasons) – but I think it should be looked into for 3.0

Discovered another issue today – somewhat related to original bug, but has nothing to do with Private.
I have normally been creating Organizations by entered the data for a new organization in the data for an event. All good. But If I try to create a standalone organization, i.e. outside of an event, the URL of that organization never gets updated stays as auto-draft even after being published. For example: http://losangelesdogs.net/?tribe_organizer=auto-draft

    Barry –

Yes, I can replicate that as well. But it won’t really work for me since we decided that I have to use the standard Page Template to address other issues – see https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/problem-with-calendar-view-and-woothemes-canvas-theme/

ANYWAY – I think you need to mark this as an issue, but as far as I am concerned right now, I don’t need a fix. Once I saw it working, I realized that I need a different approach (i.e. add code to single event template) for my current design/situation.

    Rob,

I knew there was something else that frustrated me… I had another bug/issue to report, but was too frustrated to even bother posting (my bad). I’ve gone ahead and posted it at https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/jetpack-share-buttons-do-not-appear/

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for your detailed, sincere response. Let me share some more of mine with you:

    (1) I was hoping my post came across as sharing frustration, not a rant.
    (2) I am not looking for a refund. I did not need any of the PRO features, but happily purchased a license just for support.
    (3) It was probably a mistake on my part to share my frustration on that particular thread, since there is in fact a simple workaround available (your pointing out the intended use for Private vs Draft was also interesting).
    (4) Let me elaborate a bit more on the source of my frustration –

    (i) One of my first issues was the one I posted in thread https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/problem-with-calendar-view-and-woothemes-canvas-theme/ In the course of my researching that issue, I came across the statement

Well, since we’re not going to be doing much more with the 2.x codebase, would you guys like to try the 3.0 beta to see if this is resolved? If so, please email pro [at] tri [dot] be and reference this thread and attn. to me.

That didn’t make a great first impression or offer much hope that you would address the issue when I reported it. But I am happy to say that Barry made a real effort to pursue the issue for me and came up with a simple fix (CSS)!

(ii) Then I had a double issue of a garbage display for an Events List with no upcoming events and also for a non-existent event URL (instead of 404 error). While I consider both to be significant issues, I can actually live with the first one, sine I’ll always have an upcoming event. The second one is more significant. This issue has still not been resolved (even after I made the non-thrilled-with offer of granting admin access to the live site), and again ended with the offer of using a Beta product that you feel is not yet ready for production (and please don’t release it before it is!)

(iii) All this was going on while I was already late for the launch of this functionality. Then, once we launched and started using the system, I was taken aback by the mess of duplicate venues and organizations. When this conversation also ended with the offer of the beta of 3.0, I guess it triggered the frustration dump.

    (5) A few more points:
    (i) I do recognize that your willingness to share the beta is generally a good thing. I just don’t see it as the solution to all existing issues for a 5-6 month period.
(ii) I’ve had a few other issues/questions, to which I have gotten rapid and excellent responses.
(iii) I still feel that your plugin is the best out there – at least for my needs – which is why I am not only sticking with it, but also trying to engage and help you improve. Sometimes that includes criticism and maybe even venting.

I thought that by writing these as bullet points, I’d be able to keep this short, but apparently not 🙂

Good idea – I’m sharing Josst’s response for others that may want to do the same thing and come across this thread:

There’s a filter wpseo_sitemap_post_content (where post is whatever post type sitemap you wish to add URLs too). It gives an empty string, you can just return whatever you wish to add on to the XML sitemap and it’ll be added before the closing .

I suppose I could try, but my understanding is that sometime drafts are exposed…

Does this mean you (tribe) are not planning on addressing this?
I have to tell you that I am quite frustrated by what seems to be the attitude of “we’re coming out with a new version in a few months, so we are not really fixing any bugs in current version.”
I have accepted that I have to work around and/or ignore certain issues (that really should be addressed) – and there are other issues that I haven’t even reported – they are significant issues that I assume would take significant effort to address. I can’t afford to waste the time and effort on something that you are basically going to ignore.
I hope this came across as sincere input and concern, not a crazy rant…

When do you expect 3.0 to be released? Or at least in good enough shape to be used on a production system?

It is serious in the sense that if for any reason someone types an incorrect event name, they get to a ridiculous looking page and confused as to what to do next. I was careful to say “serious” and not “show-stopper” – that would be an unfair exaggeration…

The post excerpt is not random – it is from the first paragraph on the /events/ page. I think the two bugs I reported today are related to last week’s bug in that there is an issue when there is no data. There is no data for the upcoming Events List when there are no future events. There is no data when you type in an an invalid event name. (I Still wonder if by design your plugin tries to display the /events/ page instead of an invalid event URL). If I remember correctly, last week’s issue was on Calendar View, when there was no future events/data.

I have a test installation, where I installed Canvas and disabled all plugins. I get the same thing as my site. When I switch to twenty-twelve, I see something similar to yours, but not identical: http://awesomescreenshot.com/08e17hhd0f

Regarding the first problem, what I WAS seeing was basically what you see when going to a non-existant event, as mentioned above. Here’s a screenshot: http://awesomescreenshot.com/00e17ha96b

While, I think that it is an issue worth solving (again, I suspect it is a simple variation of last week’s issue), it is not a show stopper now that I should always have upcoming events. The second issue of non-existent events is far more critical.

More testing – more issues… Any time I try to navigate to a NON-existent event, instead of getting a 404 error, I get the Erroneous Event list described in my first message!!! Maybe by default,if an event doesn’t exist, you go back to the upcoming events list, so this really is the same bug.
You can see this by trying something like http://losangelesdogs.net/event/foo/
However, this is now back to the status of a serious bug!
    Thanks –

Unfortunately, I can’t hold off any longer to solve this bug – so I have to have events added in the future. This means you won’t be able to reproduce the bug on my site. But it should be easily reproducible on a clean install of canvas theme and EC.

That did the trick – thanks!

    (1) If you have a known issue, I don’t know why you don’t have an update with the fix – or, at the bare minimum, make the availability of the fix more discoverable.
    (2) I hope you cleanup up the naming conventions for version 3.0. I was a bit baffled for a while, until I realized that the template files beginning with “ecp” were NOT in teh product name ECP Pro and that the template files in ECP Pro did not start with “ecp”…

    Hi Barry,

I now noticed a problem with the Venue view – seems soemwhat similar to what we saw (and chose to ignore) with Events Template. When I view an event venue, my sidebar widgets get displayed vertically under the venue details. See http://losangelesdogs.net/venue/test-venue/
