ParticipantI seem to have uncovered another issue with EC Pro and woothemes canvas theme.
When I display an Event List, and there are no upcoming events, I get a bit of the first paragraph on my page and nothing else. This does NOT occur n twenty-twelve.
You can see it at http://losangelesdogs.net/events/upcoming/I suspect that the solution is very similar to how you solved a similar issue with calendar view, with the snippet in https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/problem-with-calendar-view-and-woothemes-canvas-theme/#post-46539

ParticipantUnfortunately, I can’t hold off any longer to solve this bug – so I have to have events added in the future. This means you won’t be able to reproduce the bug on my site. But it should be easily reproducible on a clean install of canvas theme and EC.

ParticipantMore testing – more issues… Any time I try to navigate to a NON-existent event, instead of getting a 404 error, I get the Erroneous Event list described in my first message!!! Maybe by default,if an event doesn’t exist, you go back to the upcoming events list, so this really is the same bug.
You can see this by trying something like http://losangelesdogs.net/event/foo/
However, this is now back to the status of a serious bug!
Thanks –April 25, 2013 at 2:24 pm #46874Barry
MemberSorry to hear you’re experiencing more difficulties here.
Regarding the first issue (just so I can be sure I understand) is this basically what you are seeing? If so I think we’re definitely looking at a formatting issue – “No upcoming events” should be cleanly separated on a new line – rather than it being a bug per se.
For the problem with navigating to a non-existent event – and I can replicate this even without Canvas – I’ll definitely make a report and get back to you.

ParticipantRegarding the first problem, what I WAS seeing was basically what you see when going to a non-existant event, as mentioned above. Here’s a screenshot: http://awesomescreenshot.com/00e17ha96b
While, I think that it is an issue worth solving (again, I suspect it is a simple variation of last week’s issue), it is not a show stopper now that I should always have upcoming events. The second issue of non-existent events is far more critical.

MemberOK. So there’s a difference there because for me, with Canvas, in both scenarios what I see is as per the screenshot I shared with you. That itself isn’t ideal on two levels – it probably should be a 404 in one of those cases and the formatting ought to be better – but I’d suspect it is an improvement over seeing a random post excerpt 🙂
I actually have no idea why you are seeing a post excerpt in your case. Have you tried deactivating all other plugins to see if that results from a plugin conflict?
It would also be useful to get a little context on why this is a critical issue for you – that’s not to downplay the problem but simply to ensure we give this the priority it deserves. Are you finding that visitors are regularly navigating to non existent events?

ParticipantIt is serious in the sense that if for any reason someone types an incorrect event name, they get to a ridiculous looking page and confused as to what to do next. I was careful to say “serious” and not “show-stopper” – that would be an unfair exaggeration…
The post excerpt is not random – it is from the first paragraph on the /events/ page. I think the two bugs I reported today are related to last week’s bug in that there is an issue when there is no data. There is no data for the upcoming Events List when there are no future events. There is no data when you type in an an invalid event name. (I Still wonder if by design your plugin tries to display the /events/ page instead of an invalid event URL). If I remember correctly, last week’s issue was on Calendar View, when there was no future events/data.
I have a test installation, where I installed Canvas and disabled all plugins. I get the same thing as my site. When I switch to twenty-twelve, I see something similar to yours, but not identical: http://awesomescreenshot.com/08e17hhd0f

MemberRight – so perhaps there is something in the settings for your theme that I didn’t have in place, since I was basically seeing the same result, albeit formatted differently, in Twenty Twelve and in Canvas.
With that in mind, is there any more information you can provide pertaining to how Canvas is configured on your installation that might allow me to replicate this?

MemberWell, I’d prefer not to login to a live site for a number of reasons – but what could be worth exploring (since we’re on the verge of releasing a new and significantly changed version of the plugin) is trying out our latest beta code.
Of course this would ideally be done in a test environment – it isn’t “production ready” just yet – but it could be a good litmus test to see how well Canvas plays with that version – many of the biggest changes relate to theming and views, so there could certainly be a big improvement here.
If you want to take us up on that, please feel free to contact us using the details in the following post.

ParticipantWhen do you expect 3.0 to be released? Or at least in good enough shape to be used on a production system?
May 1, 2013 at 6:58 am #47339Barry
MemberWe’re broadly looking at making the release within the next 2 months. That’s a guide, rather than a definite, as it is still in beta testing at this point.
While we can’t recommend using it on a production site before the official release it’s certainly solidifying and you are completely free to assess and use it on a live site before that point if you wish to do so (noting we can’t provide regular support for beta code, either).
