I removed and readded the widget. Problem solved.

I just added a happy hour event for June 13 and it is public. It shows in the calendar but does NOT show in the widget.

I figured it out. I changes the events URL slug from events to events2 and it’s fine now. Thanks a million!

The widget works (I use the list view of the upcoming 5 events) and I can view individual events as well.
