I’ve done some more diagnostics and can see that The Events Calendar is by far the biggest tax on my site:

If I disabled all of my plugins, my homepage renders in 746 ms. If I enable just Events Calendar PRO, that jumps to 3.1 s!

I should add that currently I only have 2 events and so it’s not an issue with too many entries.

Also, I’m running everything in development locally as sole developer. This means that I don’t believe the issue is DB access and/or disk IO.
