Just to make it clear I have not solved the issue as it still persists:

The blue event title shows above the featured image (and partly covered the
page header) but it should appear over the bottom part of the featured
image. At least before v4.4 this was the case.

Again, I should have read the Themer’s Guide but there has been no reason
for doing it: the event title appeared where is was intended to appear
before the Events Calendar and Pro v4.4 upgrade.
