It changed both the Date format settings of Date with year and Date without year to d/m/Y (e.g.)
With different setting I had the effect of the missing next year.

the other suggestion is only nice to have: the possibility to display the month year in the event list widget
just like in the list page:

Nov 2015
Event 1
Event 2
Dec 2015
Event 3
Event 4
..
and so on

I had the same problem – until I adjusted the formatting of dates (for the first to options equally – currently I do not have access to the site, so I cannot tell exactly how they are named)
