While tooling with the short, discovered that choosing a single category works, but no multiple categories.

Doesn’t work:
[tribe_events view=”map” categories=”pro-haunt-single-maze-or-attraction, multiple-mazes”]

Works:
[tribe_events view=”map” category=”multiple-mazes”]

(and I found the multiple threads about showing the filter bar using the short code, so no need to respond to that followup query).

Well, well… I don’t think I had a problem afterall. The event looks fine when published, but in “preview” mode strips out background element.
Alas, not really a problem. Thanks for your help and thoughts regardless!
