Switching to plain links, saving, and then switching back to custom and saving permalinks seems to have fixed the issue. What a relief!

I also have this problem. Recurring event pages will load once for anonymous users, but on reload the user is taken to a Page Not Found screen. I have found no problem with non-recurring events.

My WordPress and plugins are up to date. My permalinks are set to custom:
/index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname
