W3 Total Cache was the culprit, any suggestions on possible settings in W3TC that we should be aware of, we would like to use this plugin if we can find the problem.

We have resolved this issue by changing the slug back to the default “event”, and “events” and then updated the permalinks. Thought we should let you know.
