Hello,
I’m using WPML and Event Calendar Pro on a bilingual website: english (default language) and french. Everything works fine on the default language but some bugs occur in secondary language. Please help me fix them.
1) IN FRENCH / on all page with the mini-calendar widget: https://www.polycor.com/events/?lang=fr
the mini-calendar widget switches back to english when we browse through months: month, day and event information in the widget. I have already translated every string with the “String Translation”.2) IN FRENCH / on the default events page: https://www.polycor.com/events/?lang=fr
When we click on the “Événements précédents” (past events), it loads the past english events instead of the current language. These bugs seems to happens when using an ajax loading script…? Please help!
Note: these bugs used to occur on a Website I developped back in 2011. At that time, the support couldnt fix the problem so my client decided to desactivate the plugin. 6 years later I still encounter these bugs… Weird!

Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing on your site while using WPML alongside the Events Calendar.
I would love to help you with this topic.
The very first thing I would recommend is making sure you are setup exactly as explained in the following guides:
- https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/setting-up-the-events-calendar-with-wpml/ – there is a new section on time and date format on this one. I also recommend switching to directory-based language URLs instead of using ?lang= . If nothing else, this is much better SEO wise.
Secondly, I would recommend updating to the very latest version of WPML (3.8.2).
Once that is done, normally, the issue should be gone.
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

The new WPML update works fine! I was using 3.8.1.
About the directory-based language URLs, I actually cannot change this parameters since it’s going to break a lot of links in my Website. But I recently had a SEO course and the teacher told me that it is better to use the ?lang= parameter instead of the directory-based language URLs. He explained me that the URLs should be constructed with keywords in the right pertinent order. Using the ?lang= paramater at the end of the URLs is supposed to let SEO focus on the important keywords in the permalink. If you think this in not right anymore, please confirm me this so I can adapt my working process.
Thanks for your time!
September 27, 2017 at 9:04 am #1355585Geoff B.MemberGood afternoon,
Thank you for writing back.
I am super stoked that the update solved the issue for you.
I am just going to go out on a limb here, but if you have any testing environment, I believe the links would still work (I might be wrong) after switching methods. In any case, I will not argue with your SEO teacher.
But, I do believe the slug itself is very important. The downside of the ?lang method from that standpoint is that the slug does not get translated (e.g.: categorie vs category or the event title itself). You are welcome back in our support forums any time 🙂
For now, I am going to close this thread.
Have a great week!
Geoff B.
