ParticipantHi –
I’ve added toonspeak_events custom post type to our WordPress search results so that our events show up in general site searches.
However, for recurring events, only one instance of the event seems to be returned in the WordPress search, and it’s not the first event in the sequence… I can’t find a pattern to which event of the recurring sequence is returned.
Can you let me know the logic at work when WordPress returns a recurring event in Search results? How does it choose which of the sequence to return? Is there a way to return just the first event, or all the recurring events?
Thanks

MemberHi Pookapro,
Thanks for getting in touch.
First of all I just want to clarify that you are in fact using our plugin. The “toonspeak_events custom post type” doesn’t sound familiar to me. The plugin that we support here is called: “The Events Calendar PRO” and in your plugin list on the WP backend you’ll see the author as “Modern Tribe Inc” .
That being said, if this is the right plugin, we are on the cusp of releasing the new 3.0 version of the plugin. This version does address what you might be looking for by including a setting that will include all you events in the main loop. This, I believe may be a great starting point for what you need. If this doesn’t adress exactly what you are looking for then it may require a little more customized dev work, which is outside of what we handle here on these support forums. If that is the case it may be a good idea to check out the FAQs and other forum posts to see if there’s anything relevant on that end.
Hope that helps for now. If you can hold on for a little longer the 3.0 of this plugin may be exactly what you are looking for.
Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with. We’ll be happy to help.

ParticipantThanks, Neill –
Yes, indeed – I meant tribe_events custom post type. Sorry – a long day yesterday!
We’re actually looking to fix this issue quite quickly for a client, so it would be good to know the logic behind which of the recurring event series WordPress search would return so we can try and override this.
WordPress search currently returns what seems a generic URL for the recurring event:
i.e. http://toonspeak.floatspace.net/event/lockdown/…rather than a specific instance…
i.e. http://toonspeak.floatspace.net/event/lockdown/2013-07-16/However, that generic URL returned in the post (i.e. http://toonspeak.floatspace.net/event/lockdown/) then seems to list one instance on the event… but not necessarily the first instance. Just one event from the series – which is quite confusing.
Any ideas gratefully received!
Best wishes

MemberHi Marcus,
I believe Neill may be out today due to a public holiday in the United States, but bear with us and we’ll pick this up again as soon as we can.
Thanks for your patience!

MemberHi Marcus,
Thanks for getting back with that info. That helps us narrow down the issue.
I think 3.0 of the plugin is going to address the functionality you are looking for here. The plugin has actually been released since my last message and is now available for download. You can check out exactly what the plugin handles on the plugins page of your WP backend and if you have a current licence for the Events Calendar Pro, you’ll be able to upgrade right from the WP backend.
If you want a little more information before you go ahead and hit that upgrade button I’d recommend checking out some of this info.
Official Release, forum post: https://tri.be/support/forums/topic/release-the-events-calendar-3-0/Also check out the themers guide: https://tri.be/support/documentation/events-calendar-themers-guide/
From what I’m seeing on my end I think this upgrade will address what you are looking for, but let me know if not and we’ll see if we can give you a little more info to point you in the right direction.

ParticipantHi –
I’m opening up this issue again, as we’ve encountered this same issue on a new site running up to date versions of EC/ECP.
A WordPress search fails to return more than one instance of an event with the same name. For instance, we have three events in EC entitled “The Bridge Rising”, with slugs of “the-bridge-rising”, “the-bridge-rising-1” and “the-bridge-rising-2”. Only the first is returned in WP searches.Do you have an idea why this might be? Recurring events in EC do seem to be showing all instances in search results, but events with the same Title seem to show only one instance in WP searches.
Thanks

ParticipantHowdy Marcus,
Thanks for keeping us updated here.
I am completely unable to replicate that problem on my server. I have tried loading up lots of events with the same name. When I search them via WP search box, they all appear in the list. When I search for them via the tribe calendar search box, they all appear as well.
Would you mind elaborating on this a little bit. Which search box are you using? What search term are you looking for? Is it possible for you to proivde me with a link to the site so I can test as well?
Could you also test if this is one of the customizations to your site that might be conflicting? This guide will help you test if something is conflicting. If something is, it then walks you through identifying what is conflicting. Once we know that we can work towards a fix.
Cheers!
