Widget that shows box with date in it

I am trying to add an events widget to our home page that looks like the attached, What do I need to do to get that look?
I have searched all over this website and Google with no luck.

Hi Cliff,

Yes, I want to reduce the thumbnail image to about 50% of the size it is now, but without creating a gutter like in the screen the shot I sent.

In the 2 images you attached, I do not see any thumbnails, only the box with the date in it, which is in red color on your site.

Would you be able to share an annotated screenshot to clarify exactly what you’re wanting here?
