ParticipantI bought your product but have lots of problems. Nothing looks like it does in your video tutorials and I can’t get the tickets to embed correctly on a non-events page. There is a white box where a photo should be and there is no option to add anything more than a single ticket. To be quite honest the documentation sucks. I wish I was a code geek but I’m not. What I am is a guy who has spent 5 hours sitting at a computer trying to figure this out and at 1:18 AM I’m finally leaving my office and e-mailing the client to tell them your product isn’t as easy as indicated. Can I please get some help so I don’t look like a tool? I guarantee that if I do I will make sure the client knows it’s your problem and not mine.

MemberWe certainly don’t want you to look like a tool 🙂 and we are genuinely apologetic if the documentation hasn’t met your expectations. It is rather thin on the ground at this time, mainly because the focus to date has been on development of our new range of products – but improving the documentation is definitely on the radar.
Can we break this down problem-by-problem though? How about we start with embedding tickets on a non-events page first of all then any further issues can be handled by creating new threads (simply to avoid confusion – so please feel free to create threads for instance for the white box where the photo should be and the inability to add more than one ticket).
So, to get started, what are you trying to do? Do you want them to display in the upcoming list view, or do you want to arbitrarily include them in any page you choose? If so how do you envision doing that (how do you want the client to do that)?

ParticipantBarry,
Thanks for the reply. I don’t want to sound rude, but you’re talking over my head. What I want is simple. I want the ability to embed the ticket on a page on the website so people can buy from that page and I want the ticketing on the actual events page to look like it does on your tutorial videos.
As far as creating threads, I have no idea what you’re talking about. What I know is that I’m embedding the ticket using the shortcode and it’s not working properly. I also know that the actual event looks like crap. Where can I send a screenshot or two so you can see what I’m talking about? This is the events page: http://ginamwgallery.com/event/h-o-p-e-homes-silent-auction-gala/
I will put a smaller picture in there but the top white box (with the map) is an eyesore and the “add to cart button” at the bottom is hard to find. I believe I’m doing everything according to the way your video shows how to do it.
I need help ASAP so my client can keep the fundraiser people happy. Thanks.

ParticipantI was finally able to embed the [add_to_cart id=”376″] shortcode and embed the item on a page but I had to use this one because the product ID/SKU ones were squirrelly and you couldn’t control where they ended up on the page and where they forced other images.
I still need to figure out the problems with the events page and would appreciate any tips on placing the shortcodes so they look right. The page where I embedded the item is here:

That doesn’t sound rude at all and I’m sorry if my answer went over your head.
I’m not sure if you still need help embedding tickets on other pages (it sounds like you may have arrived at a solution by using the add_to_cart shortcode) but if you do please just post back with details.
Regarding making ticketing look just like it does on our tutorial videos, are you referring to the fact that the plus/minus symbols to choose a ticket quantity are displaced? If so can you try adding this code to the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet or else to your custom tribe-events.css stylesheet (details for setting that up are in our Themer’s Guide – link over on the right under Useful Resources).
As far as creating threads, I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Sorry for any confusion.
What I’m referring to when I talk of a “thread” is a discussion on the forum like this one. Ideally, separate problems should go in separate “threads” or “discussions” which you can create by clicking on the blue New Discussion button.
I still need to figure out the problems with the events page and would appreciate any tips on placing the shortcodes so they look right.
So if you are having problems working with and styling the appearance of the add_to_cart shortcode’s output then you would really need to take your questions across to the fine support team at WooThemes, since that relates to their product rather than ours.

ParticipantWhen I’m talking about my ticketing not looking like it does on your instructional video I mean that it looks nothing like your video. There is a huge white box with a couple of links on it and the actual “add to cart” is at the bottom.
Forgive my saying this but it;s now been more than a week since we started contacting you and we don’t yet have a fix. This is a huge joke and you’re making me look like a fool to my client. This needs to get resolved right away. Can you explain why I paid for something and it seems as if your company has better things to do than help people in a timely manner?
I can’t send a screenshot but here is the link. This needs to get handled today or I will move up the ladder and discuss this with your boss. I will also make sure the client sees all the dialogue back and forth so they realize I’ve been trying to fix a problem that never should have happened.

MemberI’m sorry if we let you down and we absolutely do want to deliver a functional product and also offer timely help and assistance.
I wasn’t absolutely clear about the problems you were facing based on your descriptions and that has added to the delay. Let’s recap where we are and look at your issues as they stand:
Embedding events/tickets on other pages: again, it sounds like you are happy with the add_to_cart shortcode provided by WooCommerce and if you wish to style the output of this shortcode further you should approach WooThemes’ own support team.
Big white box: this looks like a fairly straightforward CSS issue and stems from a conflict with your theme’s style rules. Can you try adding the following rule to the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet and see if it helps at all?
Again I do appreciate you are frustrated – and you are welcome to share the content of this thread with your client (non-logged in users can also view it) if that helps – all I can really say is that I have tried to take this one step at a time (and have suggested breaking it up into separate threads or discussions for better clarity and also to provide you with better response times).
If you need further help please do let me know specifically what you want to work on and I’ll do what I can.

MemberHi there ginamwgallery. Thanks for the note here; Barry pointed your thread my way, and naturally I wanted to follow-up with you directly to try and get this sorted. Let me first apologize for the poor experience you’ve faced so far. I know what it’s like to be struggling with a product and to feel you’re alone in doing so; and it’s even worse when you’ve got a deliverable for a client riding on that. I want to do what we can to get back in your good graces. To that end, as Barry suggested, if there are multiple issues at play, we can definitely get them addressed quicker if each is posted in its own support thread.
There are a lot of good points raised here. In terms of the actual problem in this specific thread: I am seeing the aesthetic issue on your calendar there, and it looks largely like a CSS issue that should be relatively easy to tweak. It does look like this is something specific to your installation, rather than a bug in the code, which is why providing you a solution here isn’t a simple “here’s the answer” type reply. It does require some digging and based on Barry’s replies here, it seems apparent to me that’s what he’s trying to do with his clarification questions and follow-ups. Please let me know if you disagree.
I would definitely be interested in hearing more of your feedback on the documentation. While we don’t expect everyone using the plugin to be a dev, we obviously do expect a basic familiarity with WordPress – and a slightly more advanced one if you’re going to be customizing/tweaking/integrating with custom themes. While it’s a bummer to see a comment like “your documentation sucks” without any real supporting claims as to why, I want to see what you think is missing so we can update it accordingly. We spent quite a few man hours on prepping the docs for release before launch and have indeed continued to modify them post-release as well. One section to the themer’s guide that was just added yesterday, in fact, should help you get that CSS issue sorted: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation/events-calendar-themers-guide/#customizingstyles. If there’s anything else you think is missing please let me know so I can go about getting it added. Bad documentation is a bug in itself – and that’s one I can get patched based on your feedback.
As for the videos: aside from the appearance on the frontend (as we used the Twenty Twelve theme in our vids), everything else should be current – and the backend should more or less match what you’re seeing. Those tutorials were all recorded in the past month and WordPress hasn’t changed so dramatically in that time that it would look dramatically different. Are the issues you’re experiencing purely frontend, or are you seeing a different backend from what our vids cover as well?
I will say that I’m disappointed with your criticism on the timing and take specific issue with the line calling Barry’s support “a joke”. While we’ve been faced with an uptick of support issues since launching 3.0, we are still committed to getting every one of those issues addressed as quickly as possible – and the archive of threads from Barry and his colleagues here on the forum should be evidence of that. While I can absolutely understand your frustration about getting the plugin properly integrated on your site, please know that we are doing our best to get you sorted…and that while we are committed to helping everyone, we do ultimately need to prioritize legitimate bugs in the plugin with specific users’ integration issues. We will get you where you need to be here. But if at the end of the day you’re looking for a deeper level of support than what we can provide for a plugin in this price range, or want to work with a company that can provide more timely follow-ups, I’d be happy to refund you the funds you’ve put out in full so that you can find a competing calendar with a support system that better meets your needs.
All that said, I’m sorry if we let you down. Please let me know your thoughts on the point above…if we’re going to proceed with this relationship I want to get it started on the right path, so that everyone’s expectations are on the same page and that you’re stoked about using the product. Thanks!

ParticipantAfter spending several hours on this it turns out that the plugin screwing everything up is your Events calendar plugin. So now I have to tell my client that she doesn’t have an events calendar or a store. How does it get fixed? This is beyond insane and I’m tired of listening to my client complain about things not working. FIX IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!

MemberHi ginamwgallery,
I can appreciate that you are frustrated and we want to help you – but it’s a two way process and you need to give us enough information to work with.
Right now the only problem that immediately jumps out is one of appearance – particularly on single event pages where there is a block of white text on a white background. At this point, is this your major concern? I did provide you with some CSS already that could be useful in fixing this – have you tried adding it yet?
Let’s deal with that first of all, then we can progress to dealing with other problems (or you can create new threads – or discussions – which would be our preferred path here).
Thanks!

ParticipantBarry,
I have no clue where the white background came from. I know I didn’t put it there and don’t know how to get rid of it. That is NOT my biggest concern. My biggest concern is now that the Events calendar plugin is crashing my shop page in Woo Commerce.
I put the code you gave me in the Custom CSS box but I still have the white boxes. I would send you a screen shot but I can’t attach one here. This white box needs to go away ASAP.

OK, so can you login to your dashboard then visit Events > Settings > General and look at the Include events in main blog loop setting. If it is enabled (checked) please disable it and save the changes.
If this is the problem then it’s certainly an issue we are aware of and are currently progressing – if this is not the problem then just let me know.

OK, thanks for putting the code in place. It now looks like that problem is resolved. If you still think there is a problem here please refresh your browser first of all and clear the cache and check again – if you still feel there is a problem definitely get back to me and provide a URL showing an example.
Thanks!

MemberI see you created a new thread for the WooCommerce storefront problem – thank you! – we’ll continue to progress that issue there.
For the CSS issue (the white text on a white background) just let me know if you still see this – and if so, tell me where – and we’ll finish up with that issue here.
Cheers!

ParticipantIt looks like everything is working now. I apologize for all the frustration but I’m sure you can understand why. I’m trying to do the best job I can for my client and when the store doesn’t work, no one is happy. Thanks for your help and I will keep my fingers crossed.

MemberAbsolutely. Most of us on the team also have our own clients and so we understand the pressures you and many of our customers face. Glad you’re sorted – I’ll close this thread and look forward to seeing you around the forum 🙂
