Weird forward or backslash – Facebook 404

I am seeing a weird backslash or forward slash in my URL as displayed in the event editor.

Looks like this.

http://www.century21tri-cities.com/open\-house/open-house-1037-…nt-blvd-richland/all/

When I see the url it actually points to it looks like this.

http://www.century21tri-cities.com/open-house/open-house-1037-belmont-blvd-richland/2016-04-02/

Problem is that Facebook is picking up that first strange looking URL and putting a 404 Page Not Found error when I try to share.

We are sorry to hear about Facebook picking the broken version of the URL.
I would love to help you with this topic.

You are absolutely right, the front-end URL works great, but slugs with the “-” characters are generating an extra backslash in the backend and apparently for some applications such as Facebook.

The good news is that this is a known bug and that our Dev team is working on a solution.
Unfortunately, I cannot commit to a release date at this point. But stay tuned, you will be contacted as soon as a fix is out!

In the meantime, here’s a snippet that was used to make that URL work with another application (RevSlider).
Perhaps you could tweak it and adapt it to your liking as a temporary solution ? https://git.io/vVlM5

I just wanted to chime in and let you know that The Events Calendar 4.1.2 was just released and included a patch for the issue concerning permalinks. Please update to the latest version when you have a chance and please let us know if you continue to have any issues with this or anything else down the road.
